The description "by the turquoise lake stand great trees, with the cool mist of the breeze gently caressing the cheeks, carrying the sweet fruit fragrance from nearby vineyards, accompanied by mouthwatering citrus and herbal vanilla aromas" perfectly suits this batch of La Campanula coffee.

La Campanula Estate is actually a high-altitude estate in El Salvador! With an altitude exceeding 1650 meters, the estate's exclusive competition batch is cultivated at 1750 meters above sea level, making it a frequent Cup of Excellence (CoE) winning batch. What truly interests everyone is its Kenya variety flavor profile.

The Lima Family has been operating coffee plantations in El Salvador's major coffee-producing regions since 1900, accumulating over a century of practical experience and producing some of the world's finest coffee.

The Lima family acquired this pristine forest in the 1990s. At that time, La Campanula Estate was still a wild world, rich in native plants and cool-forest trees. Due to minimal human presence and its proximity to a national park, it became a wildlife sanctuary. During my first visit in 2008, the estate owner still carried a handgun when departing from Santa Ana City. A volcanic eruption had blocked the original route, requiring a detour. The gun was for self-protection and to handle unexpected situations. Seeing the familiar 45-caliber pistol, I didn't ask further questions and we set off. The mountain path climate was variable, and by the time we reached the estate, we were already in misty rain.

Due to the high altitude and cold climate, coffee trees yield relatively low production. Most cultivation consists of Bourbon and Typica varieties, which are suitable for this altitude and more wind-resistant. Additionally, there are small quantities of the Kenya SL variety, which is particularly adapted to high altitudes and rainy conditions, as well as the increasingly popular large-bean Pacamara variety that has been trending in Central America in recent years.

La Campanula Estate is located in the Santa Ana volcanic region. As the volcano still erupts periodically, volcanic ash frequently covers the area, making the estate soil quite fertile. Santa Ana Volcano is very famous and significant. When discussing high-altitude specialty coffee estates in El Salvador, Santa Ana is inevitably mentioned. It is a conical stratovolcano. The 2005 eruption frightened many people; that volcanic event even produced falling rocks larger than trucks, causing casualties among mountain residents and severely damaging coffee plantations in the affected areas. Fortunately, the harvest conditions were excellent the following year, and the quality in high-altitude areas was exceptional. La Campanula Estate also belongs to this group of estates in the region.
