FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Sidamo Flower Queen Coffee
Ethiopian coffee mainly comes from eight major producing regions: Lekempti, Limu, Illubabor, Djimmah, Harar, Teppi/Bebeka, Sidamo, and Yirgacheffe.
Ethiopian coffee is highly regarded domestically, especially among Chinese people who show particular interest and love for Ethiopia's Sidamo and Yirgacheffe regions. The Sidama province is located in southern Ethiopia, with Arsiprovince to the north, extending east to connect with Bale province, and Gamu Gofa province administrative region to the west.
Ethiopian administrative divisions are organized into four levels, arranged from largest to smallest as Region, Zone, woreda, and kebele. Most coffee green bean names follow this naming convention. For example, Flower Queen is located southeast of Yirgacheffe in the Sidamo region, administratively belonging to Oromia Region → Guji Zone → Shakisso woreda → Hambella.
Sidamo encompasses more coffee varieties than Yirgacheffe. The principle is quite simple: Sidamo is a province in Ethiopia, while Yirgacheffe belongs to Sidamo province. Sidamo coffee beans are grown at approximately 2,100 meters altitude, slightly lower than Yirgacheffe, but it has produced many famous coffees such as Flower Queen, Candle Mango, Honey Kiss, etc. These varieties share a common characteristic: strong floral aroma, high sweetness, medium acidity, low bitterness, with flavor profiles leaning more toward mature fruits. Natural processed Sidamo Flower Queen exhibits flavors reminiscent of jasmine and blueberry - relatively mature fruits.
Guji Zone, with its superior geographical location and cup profile, was established as an independent producing region by ECX (Ethiopia Commodity Exchange) in 2010. Shakisso is the most attractive micro-region within the Guji producing region, located southeast of Yirgacheffe with an average altitude of over 1,800 meters.

Currently, there are about 20 processing plants of various scales in the Hambella region. An Ethiopian coffee green bean company has established four natural processing plants in the GUJI zone Hambella region through cooperation since 2016, and conducted a series of studies on natural processing methods using high-quality coffee varieties from this area during the 2017/18 production season.
The four estate processing plants in Hambella's core producing area are: "Dire" Church Processing Plant, "Mansa" Mountain Pond Processing Plant, "Bobea" Red Flag Processing Plant, and "Goro Baessa" Mountain Spring Processing Plant. Goro Baessa is a small village surrounded by mountains at an altitude of 2,280 meters. December is its coffee harvesting season each year. During this time, the mountains are covered with bright red, mature coffee cherries, neatly arranged on African drying beds in the village - this is where "Flower Queen" is processed.
Knowledge Expansion
Coffee originated in Ethiopia. As a country downstream of the Nile River, it enjoys abundant water resources while being located in a tropical region and receiving the care of the sun god "Apollo." Perhaps this is heaven's blessing to the people here - Ethiopian coffee quality is exceptionally high. Even the original variety of the world's most expensive coffee bean "Geisha" comes from here.
