Yunnan: China's Premier Coffee Growing Region
As is well known, Yunnan is China's main coffee cultivation and production area, with 98% of the country's coffee produced here. Baoshan, Lincang, Pu'er, and Dehong are the main coffee-growing regions in Yunnan Province. The climate, temperature, and latitude of Yunnan are highly suitable for cultivating high-quality coffee. However, Yunnan's coffee processing remains at the primary processing level, making it difficult to compete in the international market in terms of quality and reputation.
Historic Business Meeting
On September 3, 2018, through the facilitation of Mr. Liu Yongan, a Chinese-American shareholder of KonaRed, a delegation including Mr. Shaun Roberts, Chairman of the Board and Founder of KonaRed, Mr. Gonzalo Camet of Peru's Camet family (KonaRed's second-largest shareholder), Mr. Guan Jingzhi, former Operations Director of Asia-Pacific at ICBC, Mr. Feng Zhaozheng, former Chairman of Fosu Plastic, and Mr. Cao Liang, CEO of Guangzhou Kente Coffee Trading Co., Ltd., visited the Yunnan Provincial Department of Agriculture to discuss coffee cooperation matters.
The symposium was hosted by Mr. Zhang Mu, Party member of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Director of the Yunnan Provincial Fisheries Bureau, with attendance from heads of relevant departments of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Mr. Yang Zhiqi, General Manager of Yunnan Lingfeng Coffee Industry Development Co., Ltd.
KonaRed's Cooperation Proposal
During the meeting, Mr. Shaun Roberts, Chairman of KonaRed's Board, introduced the basic situation of KonaRed company and expressed hope to reach a cooperation agreement with Yunnan on coffee industry cooperation matters, including transferring advanced coffee processing technology to China, helping Chinese coffee gain worldwide recognition, and assisting Yunnan coffee in establishing its brand.
Director Zhang Mu expressed sincere welcome for KonaRed's visit and gave a detailed introduction to the guests about Yunnan Province's goal of building a world-class "green food brand," coffee industry development plans, and related support policies.
Site Visits and Cultural Exchange
After the meeting, the KonaRed delegation immediately traveled to Lingfeng Company's headquarters in Lincang. Led by General Manager Yang Zhiqi of Lingfeng Company, they proceeded to a local specialty restaurant for dinner. During the dinner, guests were invited to participate in interactive performances.
The next day, Shaun Roberts and his delegation set off to conduct an on-site inspection of Lincang Lingfeng Coffee Industry Development Co., Ltd., driving to visit Lingfeng Company's coffee cultivation bases.
Upon reaching their destination, the guests got out of their vehicles one after another to observe Lingfeng Company's coffee plantations.
After visiting the coffee cultivation base, the KonaRed delegation proceeded to the coffee processing plant to gain an in-depth understanding of Lingfeng Company's coffee processing production line.
Quality Assurance and Cooperation Outcomes
At the industrial base, Mr. Yang Zhiqi, General Manager of Lingfeng Coffee Industry Development Co., Ltd., introduced the guests to Lingfeng Company's development path in specialty coffee.
Subsequently, Mr. Luo, the person in charge of production at Lingfeng Company, explained how Lingfeng Company mass-produces specialty coffee scoring above 83 points.
In just a few days, through understanding Yunnan Province's coffee industry development plans and related support policies, as well as visiting Lingfeng Company's industrial base and conducting in-depth discussions with relevant responsible persons of Lingfeng Company, the KonaRed delegation initially reached cooperation intentions on coffee trade, advanced processing, and coffee beverage development.
