Cold Brew Coffee - The Essential Summer Drink

If you're a true cold brew enthusiast, why not explore different ways to enjoy it with us?

What is Cold Brew Coffee?

Cold brew coffee is conceptually similar to cold-brewed tea. The extraction process involves grinding coffee beans, adding cold water, and steeping them in a low-temperature environment for at least 12 hours. When ready to drink, simply filter out the coffee grounds.

This cold brewing method amplifies the various flavors and aromas of coffee while reducing acidity, resulting in a cleaner and purer taste. The specialty is that it tastes better when served colder, and adding ice cubes makes it delightful. In the United States, it's popular to add an equal proportion of coconut water, which brings out a purer coffee sweetness and aroma. Each establishment has its unique recipe with distinctive flavors.

Cold Brew Coffee - Ingredients & Equipment

Required Ingredients:

Coffee Beans: We use single-origin beans from FrontStreet Coffee - Flower Butterfly coffee beans. Ratio: Cold brew coffee : water : ice = 1:5:5

Coarsely ground coffee: Coarse grinding is key to making cold brew coffee.

A container: Plastic or glass jars work well, preferably with a lid. If you want to take photos, leftover pulp jars or French presses are excellent choices.

Cold water: Use filtered water or bottled mineral water.

Filter: If you're not using a French press, you'll need coffee filter paper or sanitized coarse cotton cloth.

Preparation Steps:

1. Preparation

◆ Pour the coffee grounds into the container.

◆ Slowly pour cold water while stirring gently to ensure all coffee grounds are fully saturated.

◆ Cover with a lid, or use coarse cotton cloth to seal if no lid is available.

2. Steeping

Place in the refrigerator and steep for 12 hours - don't rush it!

3. Filtering

◆ If using a French press, gently press down the plunger to filter the coffee grounds, then pour out the coffee.

◆ If not using a French press, you'll need to filter the coffee grounds using coarse cotton cloth or filter paper.

◆ It's best to filter twice before discarding the coffee grounds. (Don't waste the used grounds - they can be used as fertilizer or refrigerator deodorizer, etc.) Coffee grounds have amazing uses - you'll be surprised!

4. Tasting

That's it - with these simple steps, your homemade cold brew coffee is ready!

Cold Brew Coffee - Pour Over Method

Ingredients:

15g FrontStreet Coffee Flower Butterfly single-origin coffee beans, 125g hot water, 100g ice

Your favorite pour-over device (Chemex, Hario V60, Beehouse Dripper, Kalita Wave, etc.)

Coffee container (mug, Chemex, glass jar, glass pitcher, etc.)

Filter paper

A scale

A coffee grinder

A pour-over kettle (Hario Buono, etc.)

A timer

Method:

First wet and rinse the filter paper with hot water, then discard the water.

Place 100g of ice at the bottom of your prepared coffee container.

Grind the coffee to medium-coarse consistency, similar to beach sand. Better grinders produce more uniform grounds.

Place the coffee in the wet filter paper, start the timer, and begin pouring freshly boiled hot water over the grounds. Use the same method as making hot pour-over coffee: first pour a small amount of hot water over the dry grounds for blooming, just enough to completely wet them, then wait about 30 seconds. If the coffee is fresh enough, you'll see the grounds start to bubble and release gas - this is carbon dioxide being released.

After 30 seconds, continue pouring in three stages with a 1:8 ratio, so pour slowly. Ideally, all water should be poured within about 2 minutes. Add ice cubes when drinking.

Coconut Cold Brew

We also chose 60g of FrontStreet Coffee beans, a 7:3 blend of Colombian washed to Yemeni natural processed Mocha beans. After 12 hours of steeping, the inherent sweetness of the coffee beans is perfectly extracted. Adding a small amount of natural coconut juice introduces coconut elements to the coffee - creating exclusive summer memories.

Ingredients:

200ml Cold brew coffee

30ml Coconut juice

Instructions:

① Pour the cold brew coffee and coconut juice into a cup in the above proportions, stir slightly and serve.

Cherry Tonic Cold Brew

Tonic water also appears frequently in homemade beverages. What kind of spark will it create with cold brew? We'll simply let these two "meet from afar." In a glass filled with ice, tonic water makes a wonderful fizzing sound as bubbles break. The cold brew flows down through the gaps in the ice, allowing the aromas of coffees from different latitudes to disperse in the cup - creating the surprising taste of a perfect fusion of cold brew and tonic. You don't need many cherries, just two or three will do - too many would steal the spotlight from our two main characters.

Ingredients:

30ml Cold brew coffee

90ml Tonic water

3 Cherries

Ice cubes to taste

Instructions:

① Fill the glass with ice, then pour in tonic water and cold brew coffee in sequence.

② Add cherries and stir in one direction.

Prepared cold brew coffee can be stored in the refrigerator for up to about 1 week.
