Butundu Cooperative
Butundu Cooperative is a small cooperative located in Bujumbura Province with approximately 3,000 members. Each farmer cultivates a very small area of no more than 1 hectare. Due to these small-scale operations, the processing is extremely meticulous, with all beans being hand-selected. The cultivation ranges from 1,400 to 1,900 meters in steep terrain, where exclusively Bourbon varieties are grown.
This Burundi coffee offers sweet and fragrant notes of raisins and spices, sweet vanilla syrup, with subtle fruit and floral aromas.
When hot water is added, the crust layer before breaking resembles crème brûlée, emitting captivating caramel and cream aromas.
The cup experience is remarkably smooth on the palate, harmonious and balanced, with sweet notes of sugarcane juice and citrus.
Roasted to medium to medium-dark, it reveals sweet notes of whole wheat crackers and honey chocolate, presenting an overall deeper profile. This is a coffee that speaks to you—full of energy, delightful, and suitable for daily enjoyment.
Since most Burundi coffee production is handled by small farmers who cannot afford processing equipment, they typically send their harvested coffee cherries to nearby processing plants. Therefore, Burundi coffee beans are named and exported based on the processing plant.
