Mangaya Coffee Beans

Mangaya coffee beans come from the highlands beside Lake Tawar in North Sumatra. The coffee is grown in remote areas, making the journey from the Takengon village within the region exceptionally long. Located on the slopes of the lake at an altitude of approximately 1,200-1,400 meters, the coffee grows along the hillside and must resist strong winds coming from the lake.

In the Aceh region, coffee ranks as the second most important export economic crop. Local estimates indicate there are about 60,000 small-scale coffee farmers, each owning approximately 1-2 hectares of coffee cultivation land. Indonesia's traditional coffee trade method involves multi-point chain supply, starting from farmers and passing through multiple layers of intermediaries before gradually gathering large quantities of export goods. Within Indonesia's coffee trade system, direct trade with a single window collecting goods from farmers and arranging exports is quite rare. Due to the supplier's special local connections in Aceh, with assistance from Mr. Ekka, who also comes from Aceh, some micro-batch coffee from remote areas can be transported for export.

Through direct cooperation with farmers within villages, everyone can more directly track each step of coffee cultivation and post-processing. Through communication and feedback on quality and agricultural techniques between both parties, farmers can further improve and maintain product consistency. Additionally, farmers are delighted to meet export buyers and get to know the people who export their coffee abroad.

These beans are processed using a combination of Indonesia's classic wet-hulled method and the honey processing method that is popular in today's market. In the overall presentation, besides Indonesia's typical herbal flavors, they also feature a creamy smooth mouthfeel, pleasant citrus acidity, and the sweetness of dried longan.
