How to Use Coffee Beans? Brewing Coffee is an Art!
Brewing your own coffee not only allows you to choose your favorite coffee bean flavors and enjoy fresh, aromatic coffee with peace of mind, but the process of making coffee is also one of life's great pleasures. However, after starting to try, many beginners often wonder why their homemade coffee always falls short compared to coffee connoisseurs. In fact, brewing good coffee isn't difficult. As the ancient saying goes, "To do a good job, one must first sharpen one's tools." The same principle applies to making coffee—as long as you master a few key points, you can easily brew the ideal coffee flavor.
Tip 1: Fresh Coffee Beans
Coffee beans are like bread—their deliciousness depends on the time after leaving the roaster. The best time for coffee beans is 2-3 days after roasting, after which the flavor gradually declines. Two weeks is the ideal shelf life for coffee beans. Before purchasing coffee beans, be sure to pay attention to the roasting date to accurately grasp their freshness. Only with fresh coffee beans can you have good coffee.
Additionally, the packaging of coffee beans is very important. Dark-colored, sealed packaging with one-way vent valves is the best choice. We recommend buying about one week's worth at a time and storing it in a cool place. If you buy more than two weeks' worth, you must store it in sealed packaging in the freezer to preserve the coffee beans' flavor as much as possible. For detailed information on proper coffee bean storage methods, please refer to another article.
Tip 2: Grind Fresh and Brew Fresh, Taste Immediately After Brewing
Coffee beans begin to lose flavor after being ground into powder. The best approach is to grind fresh and brew fresh to enjoy the most original flavor of coffee.
Grinding coffee beans is also a science. Different grinders produce powders with different fineness and uniformity, naturally resulting in different flavors. The finer the coffee powder, the richer the flavor. Some scientists have pointed out that the finer the coffee powder is ground, the higher the extraction rate, making it easier to extract organic acids and phenolic antioxidants.
The fineness of coffee bean grinding needs to match the brewing equipment used.
Freshly brewed coffee is also at its best flavor. The recommended temperature for drinking coffee is between 50-70 degrees Celsius, which best allows you to taste the coffee's flavor. It's generally recommended to pour coffee into a warm mug or coffee cup to maintain temperature and drink it within 10 minutes, preferably not exceeding 45 minutes. Reheating or leaving it on a heat source for too long will ruin the coffee's flavor.
Tip 3: Clean Coffee Brewing Equipment
Unlike brewing tea, brewing coffee with a grimy coffee pot will only produce coffee with terrible flavor. Grinders and coffee brewing equipment should be thoroughly cleaned after use. If you're particular, you can also rinse them monthly with vinegar or special cleaning solutions to dissolve accumulated mineral impurities.
Tip 4: Use Good Water and Coffee Filter Paper
Water accounts for more than 95% of a cup of coffee. If the water doesn't taste good, the brewed coffee will also have an off-flavor. Bottled mountain spring water is the best option. If using tap water, it's best to filter it first to remove impurities. Water containing chlorine is absolutely unusable, and distilled water lacking minerals is also not recommended.
Filter paper also affects the taste of coffee. Thicker coffee filter paper (such as American Chemex filter paper) can filter out more impurities, resulting in better-tasting coffee. If you've bought lower-quality, flavored filter paper, you can first rinse the filter paper with hot water to avoid affecting the coffee's flavor.
Tip 5: Pay Attention to Coffee Amount and Water Temperature
The standard coffee-to-water ratio is 8.25 grams of coffee powder to 150cc of water, which can be adjusted according to personal preference for concentration. If there isn't enough coffee powder, the brewed coffee will naturally have poorer flavor.
Both water quality and coffee filter paper affect the flavor of brewed coffee.
Regardless of which method you use to brew coffee, or which coffee flavor you prefer, the above five tips are unchanging principles for making a good cup of coffee. After reading this article, are you ready to brew a satisfying cup of coffee?
