How to Use an American Drip Coffee Maker - AMERICANO
Although the American drip coffee maker is a fully automatic drip-style machine, it can brew excellent coffee. A perfect, aromatic cup of coffee primarily depends on the quality of the coffee beans and the brewing conditions—the mastery of grind particle size, water temperature, and timing. Even with a fully automatic coffee machine, you can brew delicious coffee by making small adjustments to one step, making it convenient and simple.
Equipment and Work Preparation:
1. One American drip coffee maker (four-cup capacity)*Note: Includes the main unit, built-in filter screen, and accompanying coffee pot.
2. Drip filter paper, coffee spoon.
3. Grind particles: Same as the filter brewing method, Pegasus 2.5, with a texture similar to brown sugar when touched, with noticeable particle texture.
Brief Machine Description:
Most American drip coffee makers come with a built-in filter screen that provides preliminary filtration. However, if you desire purer coffee, you can add an additional filter paper directly on top of the filter screen.
Some coffee machines have water level scales that allow you to determine the amount of water for several cups of coffee. If there's no scale, you can first use the scale markings on the coffee pot below to measure the appropriate amount of water before adding it to the water tank.

Some coffee machines have water level scales that allow you to determine the amount of water for several cups of coffee.
If there's no scale, you can first use the scale markings on the coffee pot below to measure the appropriate amount of water before adding it to the water tank.
The power switch is the key to controlling extraction time on an American drip coffee maker.
Step 1:
To make the coffee purer, add an additional filter paper on top of the filter screen, using the same method as paper filter brewing. Fold the seam edges of the filter paper inward before placing it in the filter screen.
Step 2:
Place the filter screen and paper in the filter position, adjusting them to sit neatly and evenly. Put the ground coffee powder into the filter cup and level it by tapping gently.
Step 3:
Add the appropriate amount of water to the water tank. American coffee makers must use cold or warm water to extract coffee. Avoid using hot water, as it can easily cause over-extraction and damage the coffee flavor.
Step 4:
Once everything is properly prepared, turn on the power switch to begin coffee extraction, but pay attention to the amount of coffee that drips out.
Don't let the coffee drip completely on its own. Always monitor when the dripping coffee reaches about half of the default amount (for example, when brewing 2 cups, stop at 1.5 cups) and turn off the power.
Step 5:
Turn off the power but let the coffee continue dripping until completion. Turning off the power early prevents over-extraction of the latter portion of the coffee, which would cause burnt, bitter tastes and loss of sweetness and flavor.
Step 6:
If you prefer stronger-tasting coffee, you can immediately remove the coffee pot to drink when turning off the power. If you prefer a milder taste, let the coffee continue to complete the dripping process (the power is already off). However, do not put the coffee back on a warming function, as the warming process will damage the coffee's flavor and quality.

Professional coffee knowledge exchange. For more coffee bean information, please follow Coffee Workshop (WeChat official account: cafe_style). This Week's Coffee is indeed fresh drip coffee. This is because it's made in large quantities each time, with a minimum of several grand worth of coffee. Its shelf life is only one hour (any unsold coffee after one hour will be discarded). Therefore, baristas generally don't prepare it in advance, waiting until customers place their orders.
