Brazil: The World's Largest Coffee Producer

Brazil is the largest coffee producing and exporting country, with its production accounting for 1/3 of the world's total coffee output. During the flowering to harvest period each year, it receives extreme market attention. In recent years, pure and advanced processing technologies have elevated Brazilian coffee to the ranks of specialty coffee. The varieties are diverse and uniform, and can balance other coffee beans with strong flavors, creating elegant and affordable blended coffees. It is widely considered an essential coffee bean for blending.

Mogiana is located in southeastern Brazil, near the ports of Rio and São Paulo, and is one of Brazil's famous estate beans. Brazil is the world's largest coffee producer, mostly producing commercial futures beans, but in recent years has gradually developed specialty coffee estate beans. More famous producing regions include Mogiana, Cerrado, Sul de Minas, and São Paulo.

Flavor Description: Mogiana

Mogiana coffee beans grow in regions at elevations of 1100-1250 meters, clearly different from typical Brazilian coffee. The aroma is calm and steady, with a slightly fuller body than most Brazilian coffee, and lower fruit acidity, making it very suitable for Chinese tastes that prefer less acidic coffee. The flavor is mild and soft, with no obvious bitterness or acidity, and emits a light, fresh aroma after swallowing.

Cerrado Region

The Cerrado producing region is located on the plateau in the southern part of the "Cerrado Savannah Climate Zone," which spans eight provinces in central Brazil and covers about two million square kilometers. It's worth mentioning that this Cerrado savanna is the largest tropical savanna (or tropical grassland) in South America, with rich native plants and animals, and its climate and ecological characteristics are distinctly different from the Amazon basin in northern Brazil.

The so-called Cerrado Coffee Region refers to the area where the great savanna extends into Minas Province at elevations of 850-1200 meters. In terms of coffee producing regions, it differs from "Sul De Minas," which is also located in Minas Province. The flat and open terrain of the savanna is particularly suitable for establishing large estates; combined with the distinct dry and wet seasons and the cooler climate of the plateau, coffee berries tend to mature uniformly. This has allowed the Cerrado region to stand out among Brazil's many producing regions, making it a quality choice for Brazilian beans.

Cerrado Flavor Profile

It has melon and fruit aromas with cardamom fragrance, sometimes with the fresh aroma of raw tomatoes. After brewing, the aroma rises with some citrus notes, and as it cools, a silky acidity increases, accompanied by berry flavors. It has medium to low acidity but presents a rich body.

Minas Gerais

Minas is almost synonymous with Brazilian specialty coffee, presenting a completely different profile from traditional Brazilian coffee. Low acidity with increased fruit aroma, rich body with a hint of chocolate fragrance.

Taste Characteristics:

Its flavor is extremely mellow and smooth, representing Brazil's top-tier coffee. Good Brazilian beans have a bittersweet chocolate flavor. Because of their rich oil content, Brazil has always been an indispensable component in Espresso blends.

Origin Introduction:

Mainly focused on farms around the Minas highlands, the coffee quality is the leader among Brazilian beans and has the largest production volume. For example, Cerrado in western Minas and Matas in eastern Minas, northern Bahia, or small farms in the south. Minas has almost become synonymous with Brazilian specialty coffee. In recent years, coffee competitions have been precisely categorized by processing methods (washed, semi-washed, semi-dry, natural), developing various flavors, body, and aftertastes, presenting a completely different profile from traditional Brazilian coffee.
