Brazil: The World's Largest Coffee Producer

Brazil is currently the world's largest coffee producer, accounting for approximately one-third of total global production. The country has 26 states and 1 federal district, with 17 states producing coffee. The combined production from four states—Paraná, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Espírito Santo—accounts for 98% of the national total.

Unique Growing Conditions

Unlike typical coffee growing environments, Brazilian coffee is cultivated at lower altitudes, grown under direct sun exposure to accelerate coffee bean development. The vast majority of Brazilian coffee is sun-dried rather than washed, resulting in a flavor profile that is moderately aromatic, smooth, and easy to drink, with low acidity and bitterness. It leaves an unforgettable sweet aftertaste and is excellent for blending with other coffees.

Brazilian Coffee in the Global Market

Brazil's coffee production accounts for one-third of the world's total, holding an extremely important position in the entire coffee trading market. However, since Brazil's coffee industry initially adopted a pricing strategy of low prices and large-scale cultivation, the quality of produced coffee is average but rarely reaches excellent grades. It is generally considered an indispensable coffee bean for blending.

Among Brazil's numerous coffee varieties, Santos is the most famous, followed by Rio. Santos Coffee is mainly produced in São Paulo state and is of the Bourbon variety of Coffea arabica, hence also known as Bourbon Santos. Bourbon Santos has a round flavor, medium body, with moderate acidity, making it an elegant and distinctive coffee.
