Brazil: The World's Largest Coffee Producer

Located in South America, Brazil began cultivating coffee in 1727. At that time, coffee seeds were smuggled from the neighboring French colony (French Guiana) to northeastern Brazil by Francisco de Mello Palheta. By 1845, Brazil's total coffee production accounted for 45% of global coffee production. Today, Brazil's total production remains the world's largest, accounting for approximately 1/3 of global production.

In Brazil, coffee trees are cultivated at altitudes of 650-2,600 feet. The main producing areas are concentrated in the central and southern states, such as Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Paraná. There are approximately 300,000 farms engaged in coffee cultivation, with areas not exceeding ten hectares. Most use mechanical harvesting and natural processing. About 80% of the coffee is Arabica. 65% of coffee that meets export standards is exported through the port of Santos.

High-quality Cerrado coffee contains nutty aromas, with a flavor profile similar to Brazilian Santos but more refined and clean. It has moderate aromatics, with a soft and smooth mouthfeel and a subtle sweet aftertaste.
