New Oriente

With abundant rainfall and perennial shade from clouds, the climate is similar to the Cobán rainforest producing region. Formerly a volcanic area, the soil contains metamorphic rocks. The minerals in the soil are balanced due to the abundance of metamorphic rocks. Coffee cultivation is also quite different from typical Guatemalan volcanic regions; New Oriente coffee grows in volcanic soil, but without volcanic activity during its growth period.

New Oriente is Guatemala's newest coffee producing region, characterized by its aromatic qualities, distinct acidity, and excellent texture.

The Guatemala New Oriente (Nuevo Oriente) region is a relatively emerging coffee bean producing area.

Unlike the well-known Antigua and Huehuetenango regions with their distinct floral notes and moderate acidity, coffee from the New Oriente region has a richer body with bright acidity contained within.

In the early days of the Guatemala New Oriente region, fruit buyers would regularly come to purchase coffee cherries from farmers, who would then resell them to larger intermediaries. These intermediaries would then transport them to the town of Esquipulas, where they would be mixed with other batches to create a large, untraceable SHB lot, finally sold worldwide under the name New Oriente. Recognizing this situation, more and more international green coffee traders are working to change this dynamic. They collaborate with local partners to produce exceptional and traceable green coffee beans, breaking the traditional vicious cycle.

New Oriente Region / Average Temperature 18°C-25°C

This region has abundant rainfall and a climate similar to the Cobán rainforest producing region. Because it is located in an extinct volcanic zone, the soil contains abundant metamorphic rocks and minerals, which differs significantly from areas with frequent volcanic activity.
