Original Flavor Coffee
Also known as single-origin coffee. In contrast, classic coffee refers to blended coffee.
Using original flavor coffee to make coffee beverages highlights the characteristics of coffee beans from different regions due to its single-origin nature.
Tips for Selecting Original Flavor Coffee:
- Pay attention to origin labeling. Some products may bear the Blue Mountain name but include "flavor" or "blend," indicating they are not original flavor coffee.
- Pay attention to roasting location labeling. The origin is not necessarily the best place for coffee bean roasting. For example, coffee beans produced by the famous SwissCoffeer are completed using Swiss century-old roasting techniques.
- Pay attention to one-way valves on packaging bags. If the packaging bag is completely sealed, please avoid choosing it. Completely sealed packaging is extremely detrimental to coffee bean preservation. It's best to choose packaging with one-way valves.
Single Origin is Original Flavor
More and more specialty coffee shops are offering Single Origin coffee, which is defined in contrast to Blended Coffee. Simply put, single origin can refer to a single coffee-producing country, a single growing region, or even a single estate.
According to SCAE, the emergence of single origin coffee is primarily for traceability, allowing coffee enthusiasts to understand the unique characteristics of the estate where this high-quality coffee originates, and the flavor represents the origin, region, and bean variety. It is precisely the third wave of coffee, emphasizing the pursuit of coffee knowledge such as brewing methods and origin flavors, that has made single origin coffee more popular.
Which Brewing Method Tastes Better?
Drinking original flavor coffee is meant to experience the true taste of coffee, so sugar or milk are not added. Some roasters suggest that making single origin espresso with an espresso machine amplifies various characteristics of the coffee under high pressure, such as acidity, sweetness, and bitterness, which may not be acceptable to everyone. However, when brewed with AeroPress, the sharpness is much lower than with single origin coffee. Additionally, light or medium roast makes the flavor more acceptable, and you can also try adding water to single origin coffee.
