Coffee Ground Brewing Method (Simple Version)
Filter Paper Drip Brewing - The Easiest Brewing Method
Grind Size: Medium-fine
The filter paper brewing method is the most convenient and hygienic approach, requiring no expensive equipment. You can use the simplest method at home to brew coffee grounds, with the added advantage of easily adjusting the amount of coffee grounds, hot water volume, and pouring method.
For brewing, choose a kettle with a narrow spout that allows hot water to be poured vertically. Fill the kettle 7/8 full with hot water. When pouring, pour slowly for smaller quantities and faster for larger amounts to achieve a rich, aromatic coffee.
Brewing Steps:
Fold the sides and bottom seal lines of the coffee-specific filter paper alternately, creating width at the bottom, and place it in the drip coffee maker. Use 10g of coffee grounds per cup, gently shake the drip coffee maker to level the coffee surface. Carefully pour boiling water over every inch of the coffee grounds. To extract the delicious components of the coffee, let it steep for about 20 seconds. Depending on the amount of coffee, pour the appropriate amount of hot water from the center outward in a circular motion three to four times until sufficient water is added. Remove the filter paper before the hot water completely drains.
Flannel Filter Drip Method - The Ultimate Manual Drip Method
Grind Size: Medium
Its brewing method is largely similar to filter paper, but the resulting coffee flavor is more refined, able to fully present characteristics such as bitterness and acidity. However, flannel filters are less convenient than filter paper in terms of maintenance, cleaning, and storage. When first using it, rinse with hot water, then boil in water containing coffee grounds or tea leaves for 10 minutes to remove cloth odor. Rinse with water afterward, and after each use, clean thoroughly with hot water and soak in fresh water for refrigerated storage. Remember not to use soap or dry directly in the sun, as this will create odors. When refrigerating, it's best to place it in a sealed container to avoid absorbing odors from other foods.
Brewing Steps:
Remove the filter from water, gently squeeze dry with hands, with the flannel side facing outward. Pour coffee grounds into the filter, gently shake, and drip hot water into the coffee. From center to periphery, don't pour too much at once to avoid coffee leaking out. Coffee grounds begin to expand, producing small bubbles. Several drops of coffee liquid begin to drip from the filter. When the coffee liquid turns light brown, immediately remove the filter. Sometimes impurities may be mixed in the foam, which can worsen the coffee taste. After extraction is complete, the center part should not collapse, and no foam should remain on the surface.
Siphon Method - Enjoying a Dramatic Performance
Grind Size: Medium-fine
This is a method that uses steam pressure to extract coffee. Its appeal lies in being able to completely observe the coffee extraction process. After the boiling water in the flask evaporates and rises directly into the funnel, the coffee extraction process is completed. The extracted coffee then flows back into the flask, like a dramatic performance that satisfies not only taste but also visual enjoyment.
Brewing Steps:
Pour water into the flask, place an alcohol lamp below and ignite to heat. Install the filter on the funnel and pour in the appropriate amount of coffee grounds. After the water boils, insert the funnel on top of the flask (if inserted when water temperature is low, the taste will deteriorate) (alternatively, you can inject 93-94°C hot water at the beginning and install the funnel). After heating, water evaporates and rises to the funnel. Coffee grounds under pressure will float above the hot water. Use a bamboo stick to stir the coffee grounds settled at the bottom to ensure complete dissolution and soaking in hot water. Let stand for 30 seconds, then use a bamboo stick to stir slowly in a concentric circular motion 6-7 times. After stirring for 45 seconds, extinguish the alcohol lamp. The coffee in the funnel will filter through the filter and flow down into the flask, completing the process.
Moka Pot (Steam Pressure Method) - Italian Espresso Like a Fast Train
Grind Size: Extra fine
Steam pressure brewing uses steam pressure to instantly extract coffee liquid. "Espresso" represents speed, and Italian espresso has a strong, intense bitterness. Freshly brewed coffee will have delicate, soft foam on the surface. These bubbles are caused by hot water spraying out instantly, extracting the coffee in one go. This foam is where espresso's unique flavor lies.
Brewing Steps:
First use the lower part of the pot, fill with water to 9/10 full (because water will be absorbed by coffee grounds) (be careful not to exceed the pressure relief valve with water). Pour coffee grounds into the cup and press gently with a spoon. Assemble the upper and lower parts and close the pot tightly, ensuring it's locked to prevent steam or heat from leaking. Place the coffee pot on a gas stove and bring to a boil over high heat. After the hot water rises, reduce to low heat. Remember not to open the pot lid to prevent water from overflowing. When all the hot water has risen to the upper chamber, quickly pour into coffee cups while the foam is still present and hot.
Cold Drip Method - A Meticulous Method Requiring Patient Waiting
Grind Size: Fine
This method mainly utilizes the dissolution of coffee in water, slowly extracting it drop by drop. Because it requires using a coffee distiller to extract drop by drop, it takes a very long time. The coffee flavor will vary depending on roast degree, water amount, and time, so it's suitable for dark roasted coffee beans; otherwise, the acidity will be too strong.
Brewing Steps:
Pour water into the upper chamber. Fix filter paper in the cylindrical filter tube, add coffee, and press lightly from above to secure. Soak all coffee grounds in water. Assemble the filter tube with the cup that catches coffee grounds, adjust the drip valve (approximately 40-42 drops per minute). After about 5-6 hours, extraction will be complete.
