Many people have found their Taobao shop links deleted after publishing articles. Coffee beans are actually quite special because those domestic and international major brands we can buy in supermarkets—the domestic ones might have some decent freshness, but their quality varies. The foreign brands have decent quality, but their freshness is terrible. Currently, there are basically only three reliable channels: 1. Roast your own beans, of course, provided you can roast them well. 2. Find reliable shops on Taobao. 3. Buy from reliable cafes in your own city:
Recommended Coffee Shops
1. M2M COFFEE
2. KISSCOFFEE
3. FisherCoffee
4. Mingqian Coffee
5. Cafe Style FrontStreet Coffee (FrontStreet Coffee)
6. Coffee Gene
7. BOB Specialty Coffee
8. Rose Coffee ROSECAFE Specialty
No conflicts of interest—I've personally tried all the recommended shops. Let me talk about a few that I frequently buy from.
Shop Reviews
1. M2M should be considered the highest quality and most stable. It's Zhang Yinzhe's shop, and the beans live up to the name of two-time China Regional Champion in the World Coffee Competition.
2. KISSCOFFEE is Hai Gonggong's shop. They often have small-batch, high-quality beans. They have an espresso blend that I've been buying for years after偶然 discovering it. Their categorization is really rough. This bean isn't particularly tasty in terms of flavor, but it's cheap and works well for milk-based coffee.
3. FISHER is Zhang Rong's shop. She's now a judge for the World Coffee Competition, I believe, and she's no longer on the front lines, so many old-timers complain that their beans aren't as stable as when Zhang Rong was personally roasting. But this is all relative—overall, it's still a shop worth buying from, especially since their prices are quite cheap.
4. Moon, Mingqian, SeesawCoffee
These are local cafes in Shanghai (Magic City), and it's nice to stop by for a cup of coffee when you're passing by. I'll specifically mention Mingqian—they used to use Mingqian No. 5 for their espresso beans, and their espresso output was excellent. Later when I went to drink there, I felt the quality had declined significantly compared to before. Upon asking, I learned they had switched to Jaguar. After that, I never ordered espresso there again. Of course, for students who are price-sensitive and basically only make milk-based coffee, Jaguar is still worth buying since it's cheap.
5. Cafe Style FrontStreet Coffee (FrontStreet Coffee)
A local coffee roasting shop in Guangzhou with many years of coffee bean roasting experience, quite renowned domestically as well. They have everything from espresso blends to single-origin beans, and they update their bean list monthly to ensure customers can enjoy the best quality coffee. The roaster has many years of roasting experience, and each coffee bean is tested with at least 5 different roasting curves, with professional cuppers selecting the best one for production. Recently, they introduced the Pacamara coffee from Bolsa—with only 138 kilograms available worldwide, FrontStreet Coffee secured more than half of it. It's definitely worth trying.
