Yirgacheffe's Unique Characteristics

What makes Yirgacheffe most renowned is its distinctive and evident fruity sweetness and acidity. Upon the first sip, the aroma immediately bursts forth, beginning with pleasant citrus notes and flavors reminiscent of jasmine fragrance. "Not quite like coffee, but more like fruit tea" is a common impression many people share about light to medium-roasted Yirgacheffe. Yirgacheffe exhibits unique lemon, floral, and honey-like sweet aromas, with gentle fruit acidity and citrus flavors, creating a refreshingly bright and clean taste that makes it an exceptionally premium coffee with strong personality.

The Yukiro Cooperative Story

Ethiopia's Yukiro Cooperative has not joined the government coffee organization, so they must handle many tasks themselves—a practice never seen before, at least in Ethiopia. The cooperative implemented various quality improvements that produced dream-like coffee, but during this period, they faced heavy debt pressure, and farmers often couldn't recover their profits.

However, this program has at least enabled their Yukiro cooperative to achieve self-sufficiency now! Due to sound organization and transparency, it can be confirmed that significant investments will lead to fair resource distribution, investing in processing facilities to produce better coffee. The farms are located in the Goma Woreda region, at altitudes between 1900-2100 meters. Yukiro currently has 520 members and added sun-dried raised beds and warehouse capacity last year.
