Introduction to Sidamo Coffee Region
Sidamo is one of Ethiopia's important coffee-growing regions. The coffee flavors from Sidamo are exceptionally diverse. Due to abundant rainfall, fertile soil, and ideal climate conditions, the washed processed coffee beans from this region are clean and mature, sweet and refreshing, with unique distinctive characteristics.
Origin and Flavor Profile
Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee, and Sidamo is an important coffee-exporting province. Due to the influence of terrain, soil composition, and regional microclimates, coffee beans grown in each town and area within the province have subtle differences in taste. Washed Sidamo is a typical specialty coffee, beloved by Taiwanese coffee enthusiasts just as much as Yirgacheffe. It offers a clean taste with lime-scented acidity and sweetness, displaying excellent balance.
Political Context
Like many developing countries, Ethiopia in Africa faces governance issues. Ethiopia has many ethnic groups, but those in power represent only one of these ethnic groups, and this group is using military force to kill other ethnic groups. During the 2016 Rio Olympics, men's marathon silver medalist Feyisa Lilesa raised a cross-arm gesture at the finish line to support his persecuted ethnic group, highlighting the political problems in this coffee kingdom.
