The Story of Finca Primavera
The farm owner, Arnulfo Leguizamp, is the son of a coffee farmer born in Teruel, Huila province. In his youth, he studied mechanical activities and worked in many urban environments before deciding to devote himself to the coffee business.
Over 20 years ago, he traveled to San Agustin to learn about the mysterious statues of the archaeological park, but the climate, kind people, and land resources made him fall deeply in love with this place. It was here that he met his wife, Aura Rita Bolanos.
The coffee farm began with one hectare of land owned by Aura Rita Bolanos, and later purchased more than 3 hectares of land, gradually expanding coffee cultivation. The farm was named "Primavera," meaning spring in Spanish, and is located in the village of El Tabor in San Agustin. As a member of the Los Naranjos organization, Arnulfo takes great pride in his identity as a farmer.
The main variety cultivated on the farm is Caturra, and Castillo coffee has also been gradually integrated. Arnulfo has been Rainforest Alliance certified for four years and is dedicated to protecting natural water sources and bird conservation. Through waste recycling and avoiding chemical products, he continuously focuses on environmental protection. This belief and principle is for his children and grandchildren - he hopes his land can remain unpolluted, allowing his beloved family to continue living in a healthy environment.
His principle for coffee production starts with quality. He said, "I do these things with love and dedication, and I have the support of my wife and children. The advantage of where my farm is located is a secret, but to put it simply, it's mainly high altitude, suitable climate, and attention to and requirements for flavor quality in every step. A very important point is that we only pick fully ripe coffee cherries and insist on proper, timely processing, such as washing the coffee fruits with clean water and drying them in a well-ventilated area under sunlight in what we call the 'Casa Elda' system."
Arnulfo also trains his son to learn cupping skills in the Los Naranjos cupping laboratory, laying the foundation for him to take over the business. For the new generation of coffee farmers, they hope to show their hard work to the world through excellent cup flavors through micro-batch coffees with traceable production information. The practice of purchasing coffee batches with excellent flavors at premium prices has also greatly encouraged coffee farmers to improve their output quality. Finca Primavera won the honor of champion farm in the 2011 Colombia Cup of Excellence competition with a high score of 94 points.
