Coffee has taken root in Costa Rica for over 200 years. Although the country ranks third from the bottom in land area among Central American producing nations, it plays an indispensable role. Currently, Costa Rica has a total population of about 4.5 million people, yet boasts as many as 400 million coffee trees. Coffee exports account for 25% of the country's total export value, and据统计 approximately one-third of the population is engaged in coffee-related industry chains. It's no exaggeration to say that coffee has transformed this country's standard of living.

Costa Rica possesses uniquely favorable natural conditions—fertile volcanic ash soil, mild and suitable temperatures, and stable, abundant rainfall. Sufficient daytime sunlight hours and significant day-night temperature differences all contribute to making coffee one of the country's primary agricultural products.

They also produce various grades of green coffee beans, from commercial affordable Arabica beans to those originating from the Cup of Excellence (COE) competition, including the temple-level Geisha variety. Additionally, countless post-processing methods in white, yellow, red, and black variations create an dazzling and overwhelming array of choices.

Traditional classification divides Costa Rica into seven producing regions, distributed from northwest to southeast along the inland central plateau: West Valley, Central Valley, Tarrazu, Tres Rios, Orosi, Brunca, and Turrialba. While several of these may already be familiar to the Taiwanese coffee market, the evolution of specialty coffee has meant that large regional classifications can no longer satisfy the curiosity of coffee enthusiasts pursuing quality. This has led to the discovery of increasingly numerous micro-regions and small batches from small estates.

Dota is an independent small region within Tarrazu, located at a considerable distance from other Tarrazu coffee tree planting areas. Therefore, different climate conditions, terrain, and unique soil make Dota region's beans display flavors quite different from those of the Tarrazu region.

Good Dota beans are mostly smaller in size but possess high concentration and excellent body. Their unique dark chocolate flavor is something that other Costa Rican coffees lack.
