Catuai green beans are relatively soft, with a sweet taste and minimal acidity or astringency. It seems everything scores only about 65 points. This is a variety that Brazil has been strongly promoting, but it hasn't achieved much significant success yet.

Catuai is also a hybrid Arabica variety, a cross between Mundo Novo and Caturra. It has better resistance to natural disasters, particularly wind and rain. It inherits the advantage of Caturra's short plant height, addressing the shortcomings of Mundo Novo. Another advantage is that its fruit sets firmly and doesn't easily fall off in strong winds, compensating for the delicate nature of Arabica fruit. However, its overall flavor profile is more monotonous than both Caturra and Mundo Novo, lacking richness and body, which is its greatest regret. Additionally, its fruit growth and harvesting lifespan is only about ten years, making its short lifespan another weakness.

Catuai also comes in red fruit (Catuai Amerelo) and yellow fruit (Catuai Vermelho) varieties. The fruit can be either red or yellow, but to date, no significant taste advantage has been found in yellow fruit over red fruit. In fact, some people have discovered in cupping tests that although coffee processed from some yellow fruit has good acidity, the cleanliness of the coffee's taste is inferior to that of red fruit. Statistically, red Catuai more frequently wins awards.

Because Caturra produces high yields and is less susceptible to pests and diseases, but has poor flavor, Catuai was developed based on Caturra to improve its poor taste and flavor shortcomings. However, it seems to be too balanced.

"Panama Geisha Honey Process" and "Brazil Cerrado Nazareth Farm (U.T.Z)" are both Catuai varieties.
