The Costa Rica Musician Series is a viral coffee variety. FrontStreet Coffee introduced this series because it differs from traditional honey processing. Beethoven is the only washed coffee in the series, immediately showcasing its distinction. The Yellow Catuai variety, when processed using the washed method, results in a clean cup with vibrant fruit aromas during brewing. It delivers berry acidity, tea-like notes, and a sweet aftertaste of honey and cantaloupe—truly delicious!
Finca Canet is a small 5-hectare estate located in the San Marcos town of the Tarrazu region, owned by the Robles brothers—Leo, Elian, and Melvin. The three brothers have worked together in cultivation and production for over 10 years and also share a small wet processing plant (Beneficio).
They launched the Musician Series with three different coffee beans, each employing different green bean processing techniques to highlight unique characteristics. This micro-lot from Finca Canet—Beethoven—grows at an extremely high altitude of 1,900 meters. Its flavor profile comes from an exclusive refined washed processing method, creating wonderful special high-altitude characteristics. The variety is Yellow Catuai, a hybrid of Mundo Novo and Caturra, first cultivated in 1949 by Brazil's Instituto Agronomico de Campinas.
Both Yellow Catuai and Red Catuai possess excellent disease resistance, making them suitable for cultivation in high-altitude and windy environments. Both Catuai varieties also offer delicate, clean acidity. Through machine adjustments, they can produce red honey and yellow honey processed coffee (depending on the degree of honey processing). Since Finca Canet is located in Costa Rica's highest altitude region—the Tarrazu area, which is also the country's most intensive fruit-growing region—the estate primarily grows passion fruit, with coffee production being quite rare. Coffee is only grown in a specific area and receives special care, with only fully ripe red cherries being harvested.
Beethoven differs from other Musician Series coffees in its processing method. Beethoven uses the washed processing method. After harvesting, it undergoes a screening process where immature or overripe beans are sorted out again. Then the pulp is removed, and the mucilage is washed off using a centrifugal washing machine to avoid fermentation. Afterward, it's washed with clean water and finally placed on shaded high racks to dry for 12-14 days, with constant turning to ensure even drying. The washed beans result in a cleaner, brighter cup.

Coffee Dose: 15g
Ratio: 1:15
Grind Size: Fine sugar
Water Temperature: 90°C
Dripper: Kalita #01 Ceramic Dripper
1. Bloom with 25g of water for 30 seconds, allowing the coffee bed to fully absorb water and release CO2;
2. Second pour to 120g; pour from a moderate height with small water flow, using gentle, slow circular movements to adopt an immersion-style brewing that allows the coffee grounds to release desirable compounds while minimizing agitation of the coffee bed;
3. Third pour to 225g; when the water level drops by one-third, perform the third pour to reach 225g. At this point, the water level drops more slowly, indicating that fine particles have begun to settle at the bottom of the dripper. Slightly increase the pour rate and circular speed to stir up the fine particles at the bottom, avoiding over-extraction and bitterness. Total extraction time: 1 minute 56 seconds.
