Coffee Bean Notes
The Blue Mountains are in the eastern part of Jamaica, surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. On clear days, direct sunlight hits the azure sea surface and the mountain peaks reflect the brilliant blue light of the water — hence the name "Blue Mountain".
R.S.W. Estates lies within the Blue Mountain region and is composed of three estates: Resource, Sherwood Forest and Whitfield Hall. Taking the first letters of the three gives the name R.S.W. United Estates.
Description
Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee has long been recognised worldwide as one of the finest coffees and has always been the first choice of coffee connoisseurs. With altitudes exceeding 2,000 metres, the temperature environment, combined with the experience, honour and family tradition of the estate owners, works in harmony to produce this remarkable coffee.
After manual screening and air-drying of Typica red cherries, the beans are transported to JSP (Jamaica's only ISO-certified coffee supply company) for further inspection and hand-sorting by classification. Using natural, sun-drying methods, there is also a fermentation process of at least eight weeks, allowing the raw bean flavours to mature further. Because of regulations from the Jamaica Coffee Industry Board, raw beans are graded once before the fruit hull is removed, then categorised by size. Moreover, all raw beans must meet the Board's standards for taste and colour before they can be marketed.
To achieve exceptional quality, the Blue Mountain estate owners personally monitor all processing steps. Jamaica Blue Mountain quality will never disappoint you. This FrontStreet Coffee Jamaica Blue Mountain is 100% pure, with absolutely no blending of other coffee beans. It features a smooth, round fragrance with balanced acidity, sweetness and bitterness, making it a royal-grade masterpiece among countless coffees.
Why is Blue Mountain Coffee So Expensive? Are We Drinking Real Blue Mountain?
The answer begins with scarcity. The entire Jamaican Blue Mountain region produces fewer than 2,500 tonnes a year, only a tiny fraction of global coffee output, and the Japanese market has long bought more than 70% of that production, so the volume reaching the rest of the world is even more limited. What does reach the market must be certified: only Typica beans grown in the designated Blue Mountain range and approved by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica may carry the name. Genuine Blue Mountain is not tracked by a traceability code, but importers normally hold complete export certification and certificates of origin, and the beans travel in the traditional wooden barrels — 15 kg, 45 kg and 70 kg — each barrel itself a mark of authenticity. Since 2003, Jamaican Blue Mountain green beans have been officially exported to the Chinese market, so today consumers can buy certified Blue Mountain through legitimate channels.
FrontStreet Coffee Recommendation
If you want to drink authentic Blue Mountain, the grade matters. Blue Mountain No.1 is among the highest grades in Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, with strict standards for bean size, defect rate and overall quality. FrontStreet Jamaica Blue Mountain No.1 comes from the historic Clifton Estate, complete with country-of-origin certification and the original shipping barrels, so the source is fully traceable. Clifton's coffee fields and processing area sit at an average of 4,300 feet (1,310.64 metres), where enough altitude, gentle afternoon cloud that shades the trees, ample sunshine and mineral-rich soil give the trees excellent growing conditions and extend cherry ripening.
It is roasted medium-dark to bring out Blue Mountain's classic balance, opening into layers of nuts, dark chocolate, creamy caramel and soft sweetness, with acidity, sweetness, bitterness and aroma all in harmony. Every bag is freshly roasted within 5 days, so the beans arrive still full of flavour. For pour-over, FrontStreet suggests a KONO dripper, a 1:15 ratio with 15 g of coffee, and 87–88°C water; grind slightly coarser than for a light roast, roughly the texture of white sugar. Pour in three stages — 30 g for a 30-second bloom, then to 120 g, then to 225 g — to draw out the full, layered cup, whether as a daily specialty coffee or a high-end gift.
