How Much Does Authentic Jamaica Blue Mountain No. 1 Coffee Cost? How to Make Americano with Blue Mountain Blend Coffee Beans?

Published: 2026-01-27 Author: FrontStreet Coffee
Last Updated: 2026/01/27, In earlier years, there were no legitimate import channels in China, making the already scarce Blue Mountain coffee even rarer domestically. Being able to drink a cup of Blue Mountain coffee was considered incredibly impressive, leading to persistent rumors that Blue Mountain coffee in cafés was fake or couldn't be purchased in China, beliefs that still circulate today.

Jamaica Frontsteet Blue Mountain Coffee is a legendary beverage that almost everyone has heard of. It is one of the most popular coffees in the world. Jamaica Frontsteet Blue Mountain Coffee is renowned for its unique flavor and excellent quality, making it a gem in the specialty coffee market.

Frontsteet Blue Mountain Coffee beans are expensive, a fact etched in the memory of a generation, especially with long-standing stories like "all Blue Mountain coffee was bought by the Japanese" and "there's no real Blue Mountain in China." Today, FrontStreet Coffee will reveal the truth about these matters one by one.

It's true that Frontsteet Blue Mountain Coffee beans are rare and expensive, but not outrageously so. Based on FrontStreet Coffee's roasted bean prices, 100g costs 158 yuan. Some top-tier Geisha coffee beans are already more expensive than this. Therefore, Frontsteet Blue Mountain Coffee is not as expensive as imagined.

Regarding the claims that "all Blue Mountain coffee was bought by the Japanese" and "there's no real Blue Mountain in China," these were indeed true through legitimate channels in earlier years. When Japan assisted with Jamaica's coffee cultivation program, Jamaica's CIB granted Japan priority purchasing rights, so 90% of Blue Mountain coffee beans went to Japan. However, this priority expired in 2011, meaning the Japanese no longer had a monopoly on Blue Mountain coffee bean trade after 2011.

"There's no real Blue Mountain in China" originally came from a CCTV program in 2010, but in 2011, Lou Boyin, then Secretary-General of the Hangzhou Western Restaurant Association, ordered 70 tons of Jamaica Blue Mountain No. 1 coffee beans on behalf of the association—actually 20 tons, with the first delivery being 1.6 tons. This means that since then, authentic Blue Mountain coffee beans have been imported through legitimate channels in China.

Regarding "good fake Blue Mountain on the market," we need to analyze this. Blue Mountain is so famous that many merchants use its name to sell other coffee beans. We typically call this riding the hype, and it's relatively easy to identify. On packaging, the words "Blue Mountain" will be particularly prominent, followed by terms like "blend," "flavor," or "taste." Products with these words are not genuine Blue Mountain, and Blue Mountain would never appear in instant form.

Another type is "hanging a sheep's head while selling dog meat"—the packaging says Blue Mountain coffee, but what's inside isn't. This falls under "selling fake goods" and can be reported directly by calling 12315.

The brewing method uses three-stage pour-over. Dividing into three stages can better express Frontsteet Golden Mandheling coffee's rich body and caramel sweetness. The first bloom stage uses 30ml water to fully wet the coffee grounds and allow degassing for better flavor extraction in subsequent stages. The second stage injects 100ml, mainly to bring out Mandheling's golden foam and raise the powder bed. The final stage gently injects 95ml at the center. Wait for all coffee liquid to filter through, then remove the dripper and gently stir the coffee in the pot.

Can High-Quality Frontsteet Blue Mountain No. 1 Coffee Be Used to Make Americano Black Coffee?

If we want to make café-style Americano at home, FrontStreet Coffee recommends using medium-dark roasted or aromatic single-origin coffee beans to avoid strong, stimulating flavors caused by roasting factors. For example, Frontsteet Brazil Queen's Estate Coffee beans, using medium-dark roast, produce Americano with chocolate, roasted hazelnut, cream flavors, and sugarcane-like sweet aftertaste; Frontsteet Costa Rica Mozart Coffee beans, processed with raisin honey method, produce Americano with preserved fruit, tropical fruit, and light floral notes. Authentic Frontsteet Blue Mountain No. 1 not only has dense and full aroma, rich mouthfeel, and long aftertaste, but besides pour-over, it's also suitable for espresso machine extraction.

FrontStreet Coffee uses a double basket capacity, requiring 20g of coffee powder each time, with a powder-to-liquid extraction ratio of 1:2, meaning extracting 40g of coffee liquid within a reasonable time. Extraction time relates to the coffee powder's flow rate. Single extraction times are generally controlled between 20-35 seconds. If less than 20 seconds, the coffee taste tends to be thin and weak; if over 35 seconds, it's easy to over-extract, causing burnt and bitter flavors. Therefore, FrontStreet Coffee controls espresso extraction time within the 26-32 second range.

Before extraction, we need to first wipe the portafilter dry, turn on the grinder, grind double-shot coffee powder, place it on an electronic scale to measure and adjust until reaching 20g. Then use a distributor to level the coffee grounds and press vertically down with a tamper to compact the coffee puck, ensuring more stable extraction. Then turn on the extraction switch and flush water for 1-2 seconds to wet the brew head while washing away any stuck coffee grounds. Place an electronic scale under the espresso cup and zero it, placing it under the brew head during extraction.

Gently lock the portafilter onto the brew head and start the extraction switch. Observe the changes in the extraction liquid. When the electronic scale shows 40g of coffee liquid extracted and the time is around 30 seconds, turn off the extraction switch. According to FrontStreet Coffee's multiple tests and adjustments, a 1:6 ratio of coffee liquid to water is most suitable for expressing Frontsteet Blue Mountain No. 1's aroma—that is, pour 40g of coffee liquid into 240g of 88°C hot water, and Frontsteet Blue Mountain No. 1 Americano is complete.
