Main Growing Regions

Arabica coffee is suitable for growing on mountainous terrain at altitudes of 800-1800 meters. If the altitude is too high, the taste becomes sour; if too low, it becomes bitter. Most Arabica coffee is planted in dry-hot valley regions around 1100 meters altitude, resulting in moderate acidity with rich and mellow aroma. Many areas in Yunnan have unique environments suitable for Arabica coffee cultivation, producing excellent quality Arabica coffee beans.

The growing areas are mainly distributed in regions such as Lincang, Baoshan, Simao, Xishuangbanna, and Dehong. Baoshan has an average temperature of 21.5°C, reaching up to 40.4°C at its highest, with basically no frost throughout the year, making it a recognized prime growing region for Arabica coffee. The Arabica coffee cultivated here is renowned both domestically and internationally for being rich without bitterness, fragrant without intensity, with small yet uniform beans, rich mellow aroma, and fruit notes. International Coffee Organization tasting experts have evaluated Yunnan coffee as comparable to Colombian wet-processed Arabica coffee, ranking it among the world's high-quality coffees.

Varieties

Typica, this classic premium coffee variety, is the main cultivated variety for this batch of coffee. Typica coffee originates from southeastern Ethiopia and Sudan and is the most widely cultivated coffee variety in the Western Hemisphere. The plants are relatively robust but not tolerant to strong sunlight, with higher yields in Hawaii. The top leaves of Typica are copper-colored, earning it the name "red-topped coffee."

Growth Period

Yunnan Arabica coffee trees begin bearing fruit at 3-4 years of age.

Coffee is a short-day plant. Coffee exhibits multiple flowering phenomena with concentrated flowering periods. Arabica coffee in Yunnan flowers from February to July, with peak flowering from March to May. Coffee flowering is greatly influenced by climate, particularly rainfall and temperature. Coffee flowers have a short lifespan of only 2-3 days. Arabica coffee generally begins to bloom between 3-5 AM and reaches full bloom between 5-7 AM.

Coffee fruit development takes a relatively long time. Arabica coffee fruit requires 8-10 months to mature, typically maturing from October to December of the same year. Rainfall has a significant impact on fruit development, and climatic conditions directly affect the fruit.

Yunnan Arabica Coffee

Yunnan Arabica coffee belongs to the Rubiaceae family, Coffea genus. The growing areas are mainly distributed in regions such as Lincang, Baoshan, Simao, Xishuangbanna, and Dehong. Arabica coffee originates from Ethiopia or the Arabian Peninsula.

Flavor Description: Rich without bitterness, fragrant without intensity, with floral notes, mid-palate melon sweetness, and a finish with tea-like sensations.

Baoshan Arabica coffee, a specialty from Lujiang, Baoshan, Yunnan, is a national geographical indication product and one of the highest-quality coffees in China and even globally. The beans are uniform and full, with fresh aroma, rich fragrance, and mellow taste. It is rich without intensity and can be compared to the world-famous Blue Mountain coffee. It enjoys global reputation for its unique excellent quality: it was rated as first-grade in the London market in the late 1950s, earning the beautiful name "Lujiang No. 1," and was recognized as "the crown of national coffee" at the 1980 National Coffee Conference.
