Costa Rica was the first country in Central America to cultivate coffee, with a long history and a complete system from production to sales. Located in the Central American isthmus, the country features numerous volcanoes and enjoys natural advantages of abundant sunshine and fertile land. The climate is harmoniously influenced by Pacific and Atlantic ocean currents and sea breezes, producing coffee with distinctive characteristics of local microclimate terroir. In both quality and quantity, Costa Rican coffee has consistently received worldwide recognition and is rated as one of the world's high-quality coffees.
The fertile volcanic ash from Costa Rica's volcanic terrain, mild and suitable temperatures, and stable abundant rainfall are all factors that make coffee one of the country's main agricultural products. The seven major producing regions are: Tarrzu, Tres Rios, Orosi, Central Valley, West Valley, Turrialba, and Brunca.
While Costa Rica has a long history of coffee cultivation, in the past decade or so, the innovative "dry" processing method has become trendy. This new approach, collectively known as "honey processing," uses pulping machines to adjust the degree of pulp removal, producing "honey sensation" ranging from light to intense as the color varies from light to dark (white, yellow-red-white, yellow-red-black). Each level offers distinct acidity, complex aromas, and rich body. The Helsar processing plant is located in the West Valley region's Naranjo producing area, where it enjoys high recognition. In addition to its own coffee plantation estates, it also serves nearby estates and small coffee farmers for processing and production of green beans.
Yellow Honey Processing: Approximately 40% of mucilage is removed; drying requires the most direct heat absorption, receiving maximum sunlight exposure for about 8 days to reach stable moisture content.
Costa Rican coffee has always been considered a classic example of perfect flavor, with balance, cleanliness, and mildness as its foundation. This batch from the Helsar processing mill in the West Valley region is renowned for its excellent natural geographical conditions and superior regional cultivation management techniques. It offers a nearly perfect classic flavor with vibrant citrus notes in acidity, blackberry fruit aromas, rich acidity and mouthfeel, melon-like sweetness, and smooth texture.
With drupe fruit notes and subtle floral aromas, the aftertaste features prominent coffee flower fragrance, making it a coffee full of Latin rural charm.
