Primary Growing Regions

Coffee arabica thrives in mountainous areas at altitudes between 800-1800 meters. If the altitude is too high, the coffee becomes sour; if too low, it becomes bitter. Most coffee arabica is cultivated in dry, hot valley regions around 1100 meters altitude, resulting in moderate acidity with rich, mellow aroma. Many areas in Yunnan possess unique environments suitable for coffee arabica cultivation, producing exceptional quality beans.

The main growing areas are distributed across Lincang, Baoshan, Simao, Xishuangbanna, Dehong, and other prefectures. Baoshan has an average temperature of 21.5°C, reaching up to 40.4°C, with basically no frost throughout the year, making it recognized as the best coffee arabica growing region. The coffee arabica cultivated here is renowned both domestically and internationally for being rich without bitterness, aromatic without harshness, with small, uniform beans, rich mellow aroma, and fruity notes. International Coffee Organization tasting experts have evaluated Yunnan coffee as being in the same category as Colombian wet-processed coffee arabica, ranking it among the world's high-quality coffees.

Variety

Typica, this classic high-quality coffee variety, is the main cultivated variety for this batch of coffee. Typica coffee originated in Ethiopia and southeastern Sudan, and is the most widely cultivated coffee variety in the Western Hemisphere. The plants are relatively robust but not tolerant to strong light, with higher yields in Hawaii. Typica has bronze-colored young leaves, earning it the name "red-topped coffee."

Growth Period

Yunnan coffee arabica bears fruit in 3-4 years.

Coffee is a short-day plant. Coffee exhibits multiple flowering phenomena with concentrated flowering periods. Coffee arabica in Yunnan flowers from February to July, with peak flowering from March to May. Coffee flowering is greatly influenced by climate, particularly rainfall and temperature. Coffee flowers have a short lifespan of only 2-3 days. Coffee arabica generally begins to bloom between 3-5 AM and reaches full bloom from 5-7 AM.

Coffee fruit development takes a relatively long time. Coffee arabica fruit requires 8-10 months to mature, typically ripening from October to December of the same year. Rainfall greatly affects fruit development, and climatic conditions directly influence the fruit's quality.

Yunnan Coffee Arabica

Yunnan coffee arabica belongs to the Rubiaceae family, Coffea genus, with growing areas mainly distributed across Lincang, Baoshan, Simao, Xishuangbanna, Dehong, and other prefectures. Coffee arabica originated in Ethiopia or the Arabian Peninsula.

Flavor Description: Rich without bitterness, aromatic without harshness, with floral notes, melon sweetness in the mid-palate, and black tea sensation in the finish.
