Variety: Catuai

Processing Plant: Firestone Estate

Flavor: Lemon, Orange, Cranberry, Green Tea

About Catuai

"Catuai" is a hybrid of Mundo Novo and Caturra — a second-generation cross. It inherits Caturra's low tree height, and the name comes from an indigenous word meaning "very good." As a member of the Arabica family, Catuai is a relatively high-yielding variety.

Panama Coffee Growing Regions

Panama's premium coffee grows in the west of the country, near Costa Rica and close to the Pacific. The coffee from the Boquete district of Chiriquí province is the most famous, with Volcán, Santa Clara, and Candela also well known. Other regions include the David, Renacimiento, Bugaba, and Tole districts. Only coffee grown between 1,300 and 1,500 meters qualifies as specialty coffee.

Cupping Notes

Dried fruit aroma, rich fruit acidity, noticeable sweetness on entry; lemon, orange, cranberry, and green tea, with a uniform, smooth texture — soft, with subtle floral notes and a long-lasting aftertaste.

FrontStreet Coffee Recommendation

FrontStreet Boquete Washed Geisha — If you enjoy Panamanian profiles, don't miss this estate-level entry Geisha from Boquete, the country's most famous growing district. Planted at 1,600 meters where mountain mists, humid days, cool nights, and Baru Volcano's fertile soil do the work, it brews into an aromatic cup of jasmine florals, green tea, honey, citrus, and orange — the classic Geisha signature.

FrontStreet Panama Washed "Flower Butterfly" (Butterfly) — A natural companion to this honey Catuai: a blend carrying half Geisha bloodline, combining Geisha, Caturra, and Catuai on the volcanic slopes of Boquete's Baru Volcano area. The microclimate's abundant rainfall and wide day-night temperature swings, plus meticulous picking and processing, give the cup excellent body, bright citrus acidity, and Geisha-like jasmine aroma. Great as pour-over, equally good as cold brew.
