Last Updated: 2026/01/27, Latte is the transliteration of the Italian word "Latte," which means "hot milk" in Italian. Latte coffee is called "Coffee Latte" and is a type of specialty coffee. Latte, derived from the Italian word "Latte," refers to a coffee made by mixing a certain proportion of milk with espresso, belonging to the category of specialty coffee.

The original latte originated in Vienna, the city of music. Viennese people began drinking coffee as early as the 17th century. At that time, the Turkish army failed in their attack on Vienna and left behind 500 bags of coffee beans in their hasty retreat. These coffee beans became the raw material for Vienna's first coffee house (Blue Bottle). To cater to European tastes, the coffee shop owners filtered the coffee grounds and added a large amount of milk, making the bitter black coffee smooth and sweet. The flavor fascinated the Viennese, and milk coffee subsequently became popular worldwide.

The ingredients for latte are simple, requiring only espresso and milk, with no fixed ratio, mostly ranging from 1:5 to 1:8. FrontStreet Coffee uses a 1:6 ratio, with 40g of espresso liquid added to 240g of milk.

Espresso, also known as Espresso, is a pure black coffee liquid that is small in volume yet rich and fragrant, with golden foam floating on top, created by using steam pressure to force hot water through coffee powder. Although we rarely see it on café menus, it participates in daily Americanos, lattes, and cappuccinos, making it the soul of coffee shops. When preparing hot lattes, FrontStreet Coffee adds espresso liquid to a pre-warmed coffee cup, then uses an espresso machine's steam to froth the milk. The milk temperature is best controlled between 55-65°C to create a fine, moderately thick layer of milk foam, which is then evenly blended with the coffee liquid. The final latte art is the finishing touch.

FrontStreet Coffee's hot latte presents the sweet aroma of liqueur-filled chocolate, with a cream-like smoothness. FrontStreet Coffee's iced latte will first be filled with 75g of ice cubes + 25ml of fresh milk, then 40g of coffee liquid is extracted and poured over the surface. Before drinking, FrontStreet Coffee reminds guests to stir thoroughly.

Speaking of iced lattes, FrontStreet Coffee wants to talk about Dirty coffee, also known as "Dirty Coffee," which has been trending since 2019. Hot espresso is poured over frozen milk, creating distinct layers. The espresso liquid sinks along the cup's edge, giving the impression of becoming "dirty." Generally, Dirty coffee comes in smaller portions than iced lattes. Dirty coffee typically needs to be consumed immediately to experience the special sensation of "alternating hot and cold."

How to Make Dirty Coffee:

Preparation: The cup to be used needs to be placed in the freezer to chill thoroughly, allowing the cup itself to become frozen at low temperature. Because Dirty coffee emphasizes the layering of hot and cold, the following steps need to be performed consecutively to achieve the best effect!

Step 1: Prepare a cup that has been placed in the freezer in advance.

Step 2: Pour in 180ml of iced milk.

Step 3: Grind a portion of coffee powder and fill it into the portafilter, tamping it firmly for later use.

Step 4: While extracting the espresso, place the cup under the brew head to allow the espresso to float completely on top of the iced milk!

Step 5: When the espresso extraction is complete, it's ready to drink! (Taking slightly larger sips will help you better experience the layers of Dirty coffee!)
