Within the coffee cultivation belt, the Americas region is situated perfectly within this zone. The Americas boast numerous renowned coffee-producing countries, including Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Guatemala. Among these, Guatemala was the top coffee producer in Central America during the 20th century and early 21st century, currently ranking as the world's ninth-largest coffee producer, famous for its high-quality, high-altitude, strictly hard beans.

Guatemala

Guatemala is located in the southern part of North America, bordering Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador. It faces the Gulf of Honduras on the Caribbean Sea to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the south, with approximately 500 kilometers of coastline.

Guatemala Map

Two-thirds of Guatemala's territory consists of mountains and plateaus. The western region features the Cuchumatanes mountain range, while the south is home to the Sierra Madre mountains. The northern region is tropical rainforest, and both the western and southern areas belong to volcanic zones, with over 30 volcanoes. Due to its tropical location, the northern and eastern regions have a tropical rainforest climate, while the southern region has a subtropical climate, divided into dry and wet seasons throughout the year. The plateau areas sit at elevations between 1300-1800 meters, with annual temperatures ranging from 18-28°C, with January and February being colder at higher elevations. Guatemala's tropical rainforests, volcanic geology soils, and varied microclimates contribute to elegant and lively acidity in its coffee beans, creating clean taste with distinct layered coffee flavors.

Antigua Region

Coffee is cultivated in 20 provinces, with eight particularly famous regions divided into five volcanic regions and three non-volcanic regions, all with average coffee cultivation altitudes above 1500 meters. The non-volcanic regions include Huehuetenango, Cobán, and Nuevo Oriente. The volcanic regions include Atitlán, Antigua, Acatenango, Fraijanes, and San Marcos. Among these, Nuevo Oriente is a new region where FrontStreet Coffee's Nuevo Oriente Geisha originates. Additionally, the most famous regions are Antigua and Huehuetenango. FrontStreet Coffee offers a washed Guatemala Huehuetenango coffee bean as an entry-level selection, featuring citrus and berry acidity, nutty aroma, and tea-like aftertaste.

Antigua Coffee Region

The Antigua region is surrounded by three volcanoes: Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango. Most coffee is grown in the valley floor at altitudes of 1500-1700 meters. Due to the active Fuego volcano, humidity is consistently maintained at 65%. Additionally, shade cultivation is primarily used to protect coffee trees from frost damage during cold weather. The dense shade and extremely shallow groundwater layers create a unique microclimate, combined with fertile volcanic soil and suitable humidity, giving Antigua region coffee bright acidity and fruit aromas.
