Visual Tutorial: How Cold Drip Coffee Is Made
Yesterday I shared with you how to make cold brew coffee, so today let's try the challenge of making ice drip coffee! Compared to cold brew, the ice drip method is more complex and requires more effort and time. You can refer to the pictures and text in this article, and adjust and make it according to your own equipment and preferences~
Preparation Before Making
Ice drip pot, room temperature drinking water, ice cubes, round filter paper for ice drip, your favorite coffee beans, and a sealed bottle. (This tutorial uses a ratio of coffee:water:ice of 1:6:6, using 50g of coffee beans, 300g of water, and 300g of ice)
(Tip: If you don't have filter paper for ice drip, you can cut regular pour-over coffee filter paper into a round shape suitable for the ice drip powder bowl)
Step 1: Grind Coffee Beans into Coffee Powder
(For reference only: FrontStreet Coffee used Honduras Sherry beans this time, the grinder used is EK43s, and the grind setting is 9, which is usually used for iced pour-over)
Step 2: Line the Ice Drip Powder Bowl
Line the powder bowl of the ice drip pot with a round filter paper for ice drip, moisten it with water, then pour in the coffee powder and spread it evenly.
Step 3: Cover and Moisten Coffee Powder
Cover the evenly spread coffee powder with another round filter paper for ice drip, and use room temperature water to moisten the coffee powder. (Tip: Make sure all the powder is moistened, as this can shorten the dripping time and ensure the powder layer is evenly penetrated by water.)
Step 4: Add Ice and Water
Pour ice and water into the top container of the ice drip pot with the drip speed valve.
(Note: Before pouring water, you need to close the drip speed valve to prevent the poured ice water from rushing down in a large stream)
Step 5: Control Drip Speed
Control the drip speed of the drip valve to 7 drops per 10 seconds, then wait for the dripping to complete.
(The dripping time is quite long, so you need to occasionally check the drip speed to prevent any changes.)
Step 6: Refrigerate
After the dripping is complete, pour the coffee into a sealed bottle and place it in the refrigerator for 8 hours.
(Note: Refrigerate! Don't freeze!)
Step 7: Enjoy!
The long preparation and waiting have finally come to fruition. Enjoy the wonderful results brought by this long period of effort! (It tastes better with ice cubes!)
