In recent years, many studies have confirmed that coffee itself has numerous health benefits. Various medical journals and research reports have pointed out that moderate daily consumption of black coffee helps reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Meanwhile, as the pace of life and work accelerates, more and more people are drinking coffee.
However, some people have noticed! When drinking the same coffee and the same amount as others, others enjoy it while drinking, but they start to feel heart palpitations, and even experience hand tremors, dizziness, and other symptoms... Why is there such a difference? Is it caused by caffeine?
Although coffee contains large amounts of caffeine that increase nervous system excitability, experiencing increased heart rate after consuming coffee is not necessarily directly caused by caffeine.
At the 71st American Heart Association Annual Scientific Session in 2022, medical research showed that data analysis of heart rate after coffee consumption in 35,000 adults with certain cardiovascular diseases indicated that drinking any amount of coffee does not increase the risk of heart rate problems.
Moreover, in daily coffee consumption survey records and health examinations of research subjects, it was found that coffee drinkers had a lower risk of death than non-coffee drinkers.
If drinking pure black coffee, the bioactive compounds it contains can help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity, promote metabolism, inhibit intestinal fat absorption, and block receptors known to be associated with abnormal heart rhythms.
Of course, this only suggests that the direct impact of caffeine on heart rate may be relatively small, but everyone's physical constitution is different, and individual sensitivity to caffeine varies, so we cannot generalize.
What to Do When Experiencing Symptoms
When experiencing increased heart rate and hand tremors after drinking coffee, the first thing we can do is eat some sweet/savory meat. These symptoms are often caused by drinking coffee on an empty stomach, which increases sympathetic nervous system excitability, leading to hypoglycemia symptoms triggered by increased basal metabolic rate.
Another situation is when someone is very tired and suddenly drinks a cup of coffee quickly. Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, but when the person is still very tired, it won't have other refreshing effects and may instead cause dizziness and headaches. In this case, what's needed is a short rest or sleep; otherwise, the discomfort will only worsen.
Another situation is excessive daily caffeine intake! Caffeine exists not only in coffee but also in cola, tea, chocolate, energy drinks, and other foods. If daily intake exceeds one's tolerance range, it can cause chest tightness and increased heart rate. In this case, what's needed is to drink more water, allowing cells to metabolize the water while simultaneously excreting caffeine from the body, alleviating symptoms.
Conclusion
If even small amounts of coffee consistently cause physical discomfort symptoms, we do not recommend continuing to drink coffee. All coffee consumption and dosage should be decided according to your own situation. When it's not suitable, don't force yourself!
