Spring has arrived in the blink of an eye. I remember when I first started at Starbucks as a writer, the first pour-over coffee I tasted was their annual spring limited edition - the Spring Anniversary Blend. Medium roasted coffee beans, when brewed in a Kalita dripper, revealed enchanting flavors of dark cherry, cedar, and spices.
The packaging design featured cherry blossoms, symbolizing spring and rebirth. The scattered petal pattern not only represents the scene under cherry blossom trees but the layered petals also convey the diverse and multi-layered flavor profile of this coffee.
Until 2022, Starbucks redesigned the packaging for the Spring Anniversary Blend, reducing the saturation of the pink to a soft, cat-paw-like pink, giving people a warm and fuzzy feeling. The cherry blossom pattern was also redesigned with simple line drawings, creating an overall cleaner and fresher impression, symbolizing the revival of all things after heavy snow.
Coffee Origin
The Spring Anniversary Blend consists of coffee beans from four origins: Colombia, Sumatra, Papua New Guinea, and Ethiopia.
The washed Colombian coffee beans provide caramel-like flavors to this coffee, the wet-hulled Sumatran coffee beans contribute cedar, herbal, and spice notes, the washed Papua New Guinea coffee balances the overall profile of this coffee, while Ethiopian coffee beans provide fruit acidity.
Brewing Recommendations
To achieve a richer body, Starbucks roasts the Spring Anniversary Blend to a medium-dark level. During the heating process, the internal structure of the beans becomes more porous, allowing soluble substances in the coffee to be released more easily.
Therefore, FrontStreet Coffee suggests brewing the Autumn Blend coffee beans using medium grind (sugar-sized particles) with water at 87-88 degrees Celsius. This extraction method with the specified grind size and water temperature is suitable for brewing with V60 and Kalita drippers, effectively enhancing the layered complexity of the coffee.
