Yunnan Province Launches Coffee Tourism Routes to Promote Industry Development

According to Thailand's "Bangkok Post," Yunnan Province's cultural and tourism departments recently launched six tourism routes covering seven major coffee production bases including Baoshan, Pu'er, and Dali, further promoting the high-quality development of tourism related to coffee resources.

Regarding this push for coffee-related tourism, Jiang Daoping, a tour guide from the Kunming Tour Guide Association in Yunnan's provincial capital, said, "During the coffee harvest season, tourists can understand the entire process from picking coffee fruits to washing, extracting coffee beans, and drying. They can even grind a cup of coffee with their own hands during the journey."

Coffee Estate Owners Create Interactive Experiences

In addition to the official tourism routes launched by Yunnan's tourism department, some Yunnan coffee estate owners have also skillfully captured young people's enthusiasm for participatory experiences, launching various activities that allow everyone to gain a deeper understanding of coffee cultivation and production, bringing people closer to coffee.

The Yunnan coffee harvest season begins around September in low-altitude areas, while in high-altitude areas it runs from late November to January. Before the harvest, coffee estates need to carry out various management tasks such as weeding and fertilizing in the planting areas daily (coffee cultivation areas are generally quite large, so basically by the time we finish weeding one entire area, new weeds will have grown in the earliest cleared area), as well as planting new coffee seedlings during specific times.

Volunteer Programs and Coffee Tree Adoption

To provide coffee enthusiasts and freedom-loving individuals with opportunities for richer life experiences and spiritual value, starting from July this year, some estates have gradually begun launching "Yunnan Coffee Volunteer Recruitment" activities, giving everyone a chance to temporarily break away from the 996 lifestyle, get close to nature, and learn about coffee cultivation.

Some estate managers stated in their announcements that launching such activities serves two purposes: one is to allow more friends who want to learn more about coffee knowledge to understand the entire process from cultivation to extraction of a cup of coffee; the other is to help estates alleviate the problem of labor shortages during the production season in the short term.

Although volunteers do not receive wages, they will receive appropriate living subsidies and will be provided with accommodation areas that allow them to be close to nature and surrounded by sea of clouds. There will also be various artistic activities in the evening, providing everyone with a brief but fulfilling pastoral life experience.

In addition to volunteer activities, some estates have launched coffee tree adoption programs. By donating a certain amount to designated charities, individuals can adopt a coffee tree with their name hung on it. Some estates even allow adopters to own the coffee beans produced from the harvested coffee fruits of their adopted trees during the harvest season.

Impact and Significance

After these activities were launched, many people signed up to participate, all hoping that Yunnan coffee would have better development and reach international markets. Some netizens even quit their city jobs to fully devote themselves to volunteer activities.

Whether through tourism, volunteering, or adoption, the starting point for launching such activities is quite meaningful. Today, as specialty coffee culture continues to become popular, people often overlook the coffee farmers who work tirelessly behind the scenes when pursuing high standards in coffee taste and quality. This is also a good opportunity for everyone to understand coffee cultivation in China.

From a consumer's perspective, there may still be quite a few people who hold certain views about Yunnan coffee. Launching such participatory activities can make full use of social platforms to tell consumers a new story, allowing them to gain new understanding of Yunnan coffee through participation.

As for whether such activities are worth quitting your job to participate in, it can only be said that everyone has their own aspirations and pursuits. Perhaps such activities will truly lead more people to devote themselves to coffee cultivation. For something to achieve more development, it needs the participation of talented people from all walks of life to create more opportunities.
