According to multiple foreign media reports, a recent assault incident occurred at a Starbucks store in Mountain View, California. Local police announced that on the afternoon of May 28, a 33-year-old woman named Daixin Neill-Quan suddenly verbally abused store employees, and during the process of intervention, customers also suffered verbal and physical attacks from this woman.

The Incident Unfolds

Mountain View Police reported on June 3 that on the afternoon of May 28, after entering the Starbucks location, Ms. Neill-Quan suddenly launched into a tirade against the Indian-American store manager. Possibly due to racial assumptions, the woman mistook the Indian-American manager for Mexican, telling him she would have him deported back to Mexico and demanding he "go back to your own country."

Due to the sudden nature of the incident, when a Latina woman stepped forward to intervene, she too was verbally abused by Ms. Neill-Quan because her English had an accent when ordering coffee... Meanwhile, Ms. Neill-Quan took out her phone to film the woman, stating she would report her to the U.S. government and military to have her deported. During the attempt to stop the filming, the Latina woman was repeatedly struck by Ms. Neill-Quan, resulting in varying degrees of injury to her face and ears.

Arrest and Investigation

Subsequently, other customers stepped forward to restrain the woman, and police arrived at the scene and arrested her. Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen stated that the attack appeared to be unprovoked.

During the investigation, witnesses stated that absolutely no one at the scene had done anything to provoke Ms. Neill-Quan, nor had anyone made any provocative gestures. The assaulted customer had simply been ordering a coffee from the staff and had no prior contact with Ms. Neill-Quan before intervening. Rosen also noted that Ms. Neill-Quan attempted to attack a Spanish-speaking child, but was immediately stopped by the child's father.

Police report of the incident

In the police report, Ms. Neill-Quan was arrested for hate crime and assault, both classified as misdemeanors. She is currently being held in local jail with bail set at $10,000.

Public Response and Background

In response to this incident, foreign netizens erupted in outrage, conducting an overnight "deep dive" investigation into Ms. Neill-Quan and flooding her private social media accounts with condemnation and criticism.

Social media reaction to the incident

The Global Times reported that based on her posts and pinned articles, the woman appears to be a staunch supporter of former U.S. President Trump. On May 17, 2020, she posted on her social media celebrating Trump's impeachment acquittal by Congress. On January 19, 2021, she posted on her Facebook account accusing the Democratic Party and media of persecuting Trump, while using racist language to verbally abuse U.S. Vice President Harris.

In response to the incident, Starbucks issued a statement on June 3, saying: "The company does not tolerate any form of racism or discrimination. The safety of our customers and partners (employees) has been and will continue to be our top priority. We thank all the customers who stepped in to intervene during this incident, and we stand with them."

Broader Context and Commentary

Just last month, U.S. President Biden addressed hate crimes against ethnic minorities, stating: "Hate has no safe harbor in America. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity." He also stated, "For generations of Americans, racism, harassment, and hate crimes persist, so this struggle for equality is just beginning. America faces not only those who have committed serious, life-threatening acts, but also those who fill their minds with wrong ideas, and those who use power, prestige, and money to induce others to do terrible things."

When commenting on this woman's behavior, the Global Times suggested she was "more white than white people" in her attitudes.
