"4 tons of Ethiopian coffee beans have been sold out!"

The power of Eastern people has once again shocked the African people!

On the evening of January 19, Ethiopian Ambassador to China Teshome Toga entered Li Jiaqi's livestream room to participate in a charity event organized by Tmall International to help farmers. The Ethiopian Ambassador to China brought his "hometown specialty" to Chinese netizens—4 tons of high-quality Ethiopian roasted coffee beans from the African local brand Arada. The ambassador had already prepared a speech, intending to properly introduce his hometown specialty to the Chinese people...

Unexpectedly, the speed at which Chinese netizens purchased the products once again astonished the African people watching the livestream! And the ambassador hadn't even said a word of his prepared speech before the coffee beans were completely sold out. As a result, the ambassador could only give an early New Year greeting to the netizens in Chinese.

The Precedent: Rwanda's Coffee Success

Speaking of which, why was the word "again" used? Back in January 2020, when the pandemic had just begun, the Rwandan Ambassador to China also visited an e-commerce livestream room, bringing 2,000 packages of Rwandan roasted coffee beans to help solve the problem of unsold Rwandan coffee. The ambassador had also stayed up late to prepare a speech, intending to properly introduce the coffee beans from the "Land of a Thousand Hills."

Unexpectedly, Chinese netizens were desperately refreshing their "shelves" even before the countdown to go live began, hoping to be the first to grab these limited "hometown goods" brought by the Rwandan Ambassador. When the ambassador finished counting down 3, 2, 1 and was about to start his introduction... in less than a second, all 2,000 packages of coffee had been sold out... The Rwandan Ambassador entered the livestream room with a nervous expression and left with a bewildered look and shocked feelings.

This livestream was also synchronized to the mobile phones of Rwandan coffee farmers. Coffee farmers from various regions were nervously holding their phones, worried that the coffee beans they grew would not be popular. Faced with such sales speed, the coffee farmers had the same reaction and expression as the Rwandan Ambassador.

Afterwards, the Rwandan Ambassador said excitedly in a media interview: "Amazing! I never expected that the sales speed could be so fast! The poverty alleviation power of Chinese e-commerce is truly strong!"

The "Mysterious Eastern Power"

Both instances of livestream marketing of African coffee beans achieving such miraculous speeds have made African coffee farmers realize that their "overthinking" was undoubtedly a display of "the mysterious power of the East." In the context of the global pandemic, neither the purchasing power of citizens nor the breadth of the Chinese market can be compared with other countries.

The fact that the 4 tons of coffee beans brought by the Ethiopian Ambassador this time could be sold out in five seconds is attributed to two factors: first, the strong purchasing power of Chinese people, and second, this marketing event was a charity activity. For every package of Ethiopian coffee beans purchased in the livestream room, 1 yuan would be donated through the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation to support the living standards and educational development of Ethiopian children.

Netizens hoped that through their small efforts, more African children could have better living conditions, receive modern education, leave Africa, and see the world! When the youth are strong, the nation is strong.
