Characteristics, Taste, and Flavor Profile of Iced Americano - The Right Way to Drink American Black Coffee for Weight Loss
What does an Americano taste like? Once, a friend described it to FrontStreet Coffee as "freedom." Americano is a product made by diluting espresso coffee with water, making it a beverage that can be adjusted according to your personal taste preferences.
Of course, to ensure consistent quality, coffee shops have fixed dilution ratios based on how their coffee beans perform after being extracted into espresso. If you want a stronger Americano, you can request less water or more espresso when ordering. If you prefer a lighter taste, you can ask for more water or less espresso.
How to Choose Americano Coffee Beans?
The taste and flavor of an Americano depends on the coffee beans used to make the espresso. Generally, common espresso blends are made from coffee beans of different origins, using medium to dark roast beans. Common blends might include Brazil combined with Mandheling, offering a rich, full-bodied taste and flavor with main notes of bittersweet dark chocolate; or Colombia blended with Brazil, providing a rich, smooth taste with main notes of nutty chocolate.

Made from Ethiopian natural processed red cherry coffee beans (30%) + Honduras sherry barrel-aged coffee beans (70%), it presents rich wine aroma, vanilla cream, sweet and sour berries, and roasted nut flavors.
FrontStreet Coffee - Specialty Blend Coffee Beans: an espresso bean primarily featuring nutty aroma. Made from Colombian washed coffee beans (30%) + Brazilian natural processed coffee beans (70%), it presents nutty, dark chocolate, and caramel flavors.
FrontStreet Coffee - Commercial Blend Coffee Beans, an espresso bean primarily featuring full body. Made from Robusta washed coffee beans (10%) + Colombian washed coffee beans (30%) + Brazilian natural processed coffee (60%), it presents nutty, cocoa, and caramel flavors with high body.
FrontStreet Coffee - Basic Blend Coffee Beans, an espresso bean with slight acidity and rich body. Made from Yunnan washed small bean coffee (30%) + Brazilian natural processed coffee beans (70%), it presents soft fruit acidity, caramel, and nut flavors.
How to Make Americano Coffee?
Making Americano coffee requires using espresso as the base, then diluting with water, so we need to extract a concentrated coffee liquid. You can use a dedicated espresso machine to pressure-extract finely ground coffee powder.
Every coffee machine and grinder has different performance, with variations in both pressure and grind settings, so there are no precise grind size or coarseness parameters to reference.
If you're at the beginning stage, FrontStreet Coffee recommends a medium extraction parameter, and you can adjust the data according to the coffee's flavor performance: Use 20g of coffee to extract 40g of coffee liquid at a 1:2 ratio & 9bar pressure, taking 25-30 seconds. Make corresponding adjustments based on the actual flavor after extraction is complete.
For those making coffee at home or in the office, you can use a moka pot. The moka pot is also a coffee brewing device that uses steam power to pressurize extraction, with water rising from the lower chamber through finely ground coffee powder through the siphon principle.
(For 1-2 person moka pot) First, grind 20g of coffee beans into powder, then separate the upper and lower chambers of the moka pot. Fill the lower chamber with water, ensuring the water level does not exceed the pressure relief valve. Then place coffee powder in the metal filter (powder chamber), using the measuring spoon to gently pat the coffee powder slightly compacted (gently, not with force). Next, install the powder chamber onto the lower chamber, then tighten the upper chamber. (Be sure to tighten it, confirming that the upper and lower chambers are securely connected.)
Heat with direct flame while the lid is open, controlling the heat so the flame does not exceed the bottom of the pot, as it might boil and overflow. Before mastering the technique, it is recommended to proceed with the lid open. If the grate spacing of your gas stove is too large and the moka pot cannot sit securely on it, please add a wire rack before heating with direct flame.
When the hot water begins to boil and starts extracting coffee, turn off the heat. Once all extraction is complete, to avoid over-steeping, pour the coffee into a cup as quickly as possible.
After the espresso extraction is complete, add an appropriate amount of hot water/ice water, and your Americano is complete!!
The Right Way to Use Americano for Weight Loss
Drink a cup of weight loss coffee after meals: 30 minutes to 1 hour after lunch, enjoy a cup of aromatic, rich weight loss coffee to help with gastrointestinal digestion. Combined with appropriate exercise, it can better promote fat burning.
Drink a cup before exercise: It can enhance exercise effectiveness by accelerating the process of converting fat into fatty acids. Vigorous exercise can increase the activity of caffeine in the body, thus more quickly converting fat into fatty acids, which are then expelled from the body through the human microcirculatory system, achieving the goal of weight loss.
Simply trying to achieve weight loss by drinking black coffee (without sugar or milk) is not advisable. The most important things are still maintaining a healthy diet and exercising more~
