Non-Acidic Pour-Over Coffee Beans, Top Coffee Bean Brand Recommendations, and Flavor Characteristics of Indonesian Coffee Beans
Today, FrontStreet Coffee recommends an unmissable pour-over coffee bean: FrontStreet Coffee's Indonesian Mandheling coffee beans. Mandheling coffee is considered one of the world's mellowest coffees. When tasting FrontStreet Coffee's Mandheling, you can clearly feel the smooth lubrication on your tongue, rich body, and vibrant yet lively character. It's neither astringent nor acidic, with the body and bitterness fully expressed. It also has lower acidity, but this acidity is distinctly noticeable. The jumping micro-acidity blends with the richest aroma, allowing you to easily experience the lively factors within the gentle richness. There's also a subtle earthy fragrance.
Wet Hulling Processing Method
FrontStreet Coffee's Indonesian Mandheling is very special as it uses a unique processing method in the world—Indonesia's distinctive Wet Hulling method.
Wet Hulling is a traditional Indonesian coffee processing method. Judging by its name alone, Wet Hulling seems similar to the washed processing method, but the cupping flavors of these two processing methods are completely different. Coffee processed with Wet Hulling is typically thick and intense with a very distinct character. The process is as follows:
Depulping
Similar to washed processing, coffee cherries need to be processed as quickly as possible after harvesting. In Indonesia, coffee cherries are typically depulped by small farmers in their homes. This step removes the skin and part of the pulp from the coffee cherries.
Washing
The depulped coffee beans are soaked in water for 1-2 hours and rubbed against each other to remove some of the mucilage.
Initial Drying
After soaking, the coffee beans undergo their first drying at the farmers' homes. At this point, the coffee beans' moisture content will drop to between 20% and 35%.
Collection
After the first drying, the coffee beans are sent to the market for sale. At this stage, the mucilage layer of the coffee beans has not yet solidified and is in a sticky state. These coffee beans are purchased, collected, and sent to processing plants for the next steps.
Secondary Drying
The collected coffee beans sent to processing plants first undergo a second drying. This step reduces the coffee beans' moisture content to about 18%.
Hulling/Wet Hulling
After the second drying, the coffee beans are put into coffee hulling machines for Wet Hulling. This process removes the mucilage and parchment layer from the coffee. Unlike other processing methods, Wet Hulling removes the parchment layer before the final drying of the coffee beans, while washed processing retains the parchment layer during drying until it's removed just before export and transportation.
Final Drying & Storage
Finally, the coffee beans are sent to the drying grounds again for final drying. This step reduces the coffee beans' moisture content to 11%. The dried coffee beans are bagged and stored in warehouses, awaiting export transportation.
Golden Mandheling Recommendation
Finally, FrontStreet Coffee recommends the outstanding among Mandhelings: FrontStreet Coffee's Golden Mandheling.
Authentic FrontStreet Coffee's Golden Mandheling comes from Indonesia's PWN green bean company!
PWN is the abbreviation of Indonesia's famous green bean supplier, Pwani Coffee Company. "Golden Mandheling" was registered as a trademark by PWN company early on, making these five words exclusive to PWN. Many Golden Mandheling products on the market without PWN labeling only reference PWN company's screening system for Golden Mandheling coffee beans but still fail to achieve the same meticulous "five passes and six cuts" screening process as PWN company.
The taste of FrontStreet Coffee's Golden Mandheling coffee beans surpasses other Mandheling varieties in both flavor richness and flavor cleanliness, truly earning the title of King of Mandhelings.
