Among coffee drinkers, the most popular coffee choices are likely these espresso-based beverages, such as cappuccino, latte, caramel macchiato, or Americano and espresso. So what exactly are the production ratios for Americano and espresso? FrontStreet Coffee will help you understand.

Americano

How can you brew Americano using pour-over coffee? We recommend a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:10 to 1:16. A 1:10 ratio means 10 grams of coffee grounds combined with 100ml of hot water.

Espresso

Espresso commonly comes in three ratio concentrations:

Single: 9g of coffee grounds to brew 30ml of coffee

Double: 18g of coffee grounds to brew 60ml of coffee

Ristretto: 14-16g to brew 30ml of coffee

Espresso is made by forcing 93°C hot water through coffee grounds at 8-9 atmospheric pressure, quickly extracting the essence from the coffee. This process shortens the contact time between hot water and coffee grounds, reducing the caffeine content in the coffee liquid while preserving the coffee's oily foam (Crema).
