FrontStreet Coffee's Panama Flower Butterfly is composed of 70% Gesha and 30% Caturra and Catuai varieties, grown in the Baru Volcano region of Boquete at an altitude of 1600 meters.
The special microclimate in Panama results in abundant rainfall in this region, along with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. Combined with the unique volcanic soil of the area and meticulous harvesting and processing, this FrontStreet Coffee Panama Flower Butterfly performs exceptionally well in terms of body, acidity, and floral characteristics.
Built on excellent quality foundations, its very approachable price makes this FrontStreet Coffee Flower Butterfly bean offer outstanding value. What makes this FrontStreet Coffee Panama Flower Butterfly bean special is its Gesha variety content, giving this FrontStreet Coffee Flower Butterfly very distinct Gesha flavor characteristics.
Although it contains three varieties—Gesha, Caturra, and Catuai—it's not a blend! The three varieties in Flower Butterfly all come from the same origin and region, making it a single-origin coffee!
According to available research, due to the estate's historical reasons and the pursuit of higher yields during earlier times, Gesha varieties were planted intermixed with Caturra and Catuai coffee trees.
To facilitate harvesting, coffee farmers don't reclassify them but process all three varieties together directly.
The Boquete Region
Panamanian coffee is famous for the Gesha from Hacienda La Esmeralda, and the region where this estate is located is also quite well-known—it's the Boquete production area in Chiriqui Province.
Boquete is a town in Chiriqui Province, situated near the border between Panama and Costa Rica, close to the famous Baru Volcano. With picturesque scenery and rich, fertile soil, the climate and soil are perfect for producing high-quality coffee. Within the Boquete region, there are many excellent estates, including not only the famous Hacienda La Esmeralda but also renowned estates like Elida Estate and Kotowa Estate, all producing premium specialty coffees.
This not only benefits from the superior ecological conditions of Panama's Boquete region and the fertile volcanic ash soil of the Baru Volcano area. Another important factor is the microclimate unique to the highlands of Boquete, which is an essential resource that makes Boquete's specialty coffee distinctive.
This is caused by Panama's east-to-west environmental pattern, allowing cold air currents to converge above 6,500 feet through the Central Mountains, creating multiple microclimates in the Boquete area with temperatures and rainfall levels perfect for plant growth. Therefore, coffee trees planted here grow exceptionally well.
In such a uniquely favorable growing environment as Boquete, there's naturally more than just La Esmeralda's Gesha—a coffee king with remarkable flavor, quality, and value. However, drinking Gesha daily is still quite luxurious, and even if there's no economic pressure, treating it like a daily delicacy wouldn't be appropriate either.
The same applies to coffee—exploring a wide variety allows one to better enjoy the pleasures of tasting coffee.
