Hacienda la Amistad Organic Coffee from Costa Rica
Hacienda la Amistad, located in the Coto Brus region of Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica, is owned and operated by third-generation coffee farmer Roberto Montero. Roberto's grandfather first came to the area in the early 1900s as part of a team surveying the border between Costa Rica and the newly established nation of Panama. Ninety percent of the farm's land consists of protected tropical rainforest, which provides a rich ecosystem that serves as a sanctuary for diverse flora and fauna, including over 400 species of native and migratory birds. The United Nations and UNESCO have declared our biological corridor as part of a World Heritage Site and World Biosphere Reserve.
La Amistad Estate processes and packages only coffee grown on land owned by our own organic plantations or organic producer associations. The founders of La Amistad donated this land to the families that make up the association when they established their home in the region in the 1940s. Our founders envisioned this as a way to build a solid future based on local communities. We ensure a high quality of life for our employees, producers, and communities by promoting sustainable development. Our business provides a source of work and housing for indigenous families in the surrounding area. Our protected areas ensure that Coto Brus County remains a source of unpolluted drinking water through Costa Rica's largest rural aqueduct system.
Flavor description: Sweetness of brown sugar, chocolate, and fruity orange notes.
