Introduction

With the arrival of the Great Heat, the sun becomes increasingly passionate! How wonderful it would be to enjoy a cup of iced coffee to cool down during the scorching summer~ FrontStreet Coffee would like to share how to make an iced cappuccino, a milk coffee that can be easily prepared at home!

What is Cappuccino Coffee?

The word "cappuccino" comes from the Italian "Cappuccino." In Italian, "cappuccio" means hood. The Capuchins were members of the Catholic Franciscan order. When they came to Italy to preach, locals named the dark brown robes and small pointed hats worn by the church members "cappuccino."

The origin of cappuccino coffee came when people found that after adding milk to espresso, the color resembled the robes of the Franciscan order. Inspired, they created some milk foam on top of the coffee, shaped like a small pointed hat, and named it "cappuccino."

Traditional hot cappuccino is made from 1/3 espresso, 1/3 hot milk, and 1/3 hot milk foam. Cappuccino milk foam comes in two types: dry and wet. Dry foam has more volume, can hold its shape longer, and has a dense texture. Wet foam has less volume, is more fluid, holds its shape for a shorter time than dry foam, and has a dense yet smooth texture.

How to Make Iced Cappuccino Coffee?

Espresso portion: FrontStreet Coffee uses the "Sunflower Warm Sunshine" coffee beans, a blend of Honduras Sherry Cask & Yirgacheffe Natural Red Cherry for extraction. The extraction parameters are: 20g of coffee grounds to extract 35g of coffee liquid in 28 seconds. (For those without an espresso machine at home, you can substitute with capsule coffee/instant black coffee/individual packaged espresso liquid.)

Iced milk foam portion: For the foam, we can use a milk frother to create it. FrontStreet Coffee chose to use a French press to froth the milk this time. The preparation is very simple: pour chilled fresh milk into the French press (milk frother) up to halfway, then pump the French press (milk frother) back and forth about 20 times until it reaches about 8/10 full. You'll see the container filled with cotton candy-like milk foam.

Final assembly: Pour the iced milk foam into a prepared glass. First, use a spoon to block the foam while pouring the milk from the French press (milk frother) into the glass until it's 2/3 full. Then pour the extracted 35g of espresso into the glass, and finally top with the remaining foam. You can also sprinkle chocolate powder or cinnamon powder according to your preference, which will elevate the layers of the entire coffee~

How Does Iced Cappuccino Taste?

The espresso extracted by FrontStreet Coffee this time has a distinct liquor-filled chocolate flavor. Combined with iced milk and iced milk foam, it enters the mouth with a dense and smooth texture, sweet like cotton candy and full of milk fragrance.

The coffee portion exhibits a very full-bodied taste, with rich and lasting liquor aroma and cocoa flavor, accompanied by the caramelized fragrance of roasted hazelnuts.
