Drip coffee bags are truly an essential invention for those who appreciate convenience. Why say this? Because they're incredibly easy to use - all you need is a cup and a kettle of boiling water to brew your own coffee at home or while traveling. This is much simpler than visiting a café to order a coffee. Alternatively, compared to pour-over coffee with its array of equipment, drip coffee bags offer unparalleled practicality.

Flavor Profile and Brewing Experience

So what kind of flavor profile does drip coffee bag brewing produce? Is it different from pour-over coffee? At the FrontStreet Coffee roastery, we occasionally enjoy brewing coffee with drip bags in the morning to start our workday. One time, we brewed a cup of Red Cherry drip coffee for our roaster to taste, and he surprisingly said it was excellent. Today, FrontStreet Coffee will brew a refreshing Yirgacheffe Red Cherry to see what special characteristics its flavor holds.

Drip Coffee Bags vs. Instant Coffee

It's said that drip coffee bags were invented by the Japanese. The principle involves placing coffee grounds in a filter bag made of non-woven fabric or paper, with two paper flaps on the outside that can be opened and hung over narrow-rimmed cups. After brewing, you simply remove the filter bag and enjoy aromatic single-origin coffee.

Compared to instant coffee, drip bags are made by grinding fresh single-origin coffee beans and brewing them directly, preserving the aroma and flavor of the coffee beans to the maximum extent possible.

Each drip coffee bag contains approximately 10 grams of coffee, perfect for a 150-200ml cup. The design of drip bags provides coffee grounds with maximum "breathing and tumbling space," allowing them to release deep aromas when infused with hot water. Its design essentially combines the functions of coffee beans, grinders, electronic scales, drippers, and filter paper. When brewing, you only need a pour-over kettle and a cup. Especially suitable for home, office, and travel.

Step 3: Let it bloom for 30 seconds.

Drip Coffee Second Pour

Step 4: Perform the second pour, continuing to add water slowly in a circular motion from inside out, then from outside in, repeating this pattern. Stop when the water reaches 150-200ml (about half a can of cola).

Finished Drip Coffee

Step 5: Let the drip bag continue steeping in the liquid for 30-50 seconds, then remove the paper bag and begin enjoying your coffee. The flavor profile of this Yirgacheffe Red Cherry drip coffee is actually quite similar to that produced by pour-over brewing, featuring notes of lemon, berries, tropical fruits, citrus, and black tea.
