In the eyes of ordinary people, coffee grounds have never been considered valuable. Many coffee shops simply discard them, resulting in waste. However, there are those who cannot bear to see such waste, or who have discovered the secret to turning it into treasure, transforming coffee grounds and significantly increasing their value. Among these innovators was Nike, which six months ago incorporated coffee grounds into shoes. Their coffee-themed footwear, featuring cat patterns on the insoles, attracted the attention of numerous cat lovers and coffee enthusiasts.
Following clothes made from coffee grounds, shoes made from coffee grounds, cups made from coffee grounds, and tables made from coffee grounds, coffee grounds have now been developed for yet another new purpose!
This new product made from coffee grounds breaks through people's understanding. Without being told, you might not even realize it's made from coffee grounds.
A company from Wales has used recycled coffee grounds to create gin, which was launched on World Gin Day, June 12th.
Although this gin is made from coffee grounds, it contains no caffeine.
This coffee grounds-based gin was developed by a company called Ground for Good, combining the founders' Rosie Oretti and Amy Adams' passion for coffee with their philosophy of sustainability. They collaborated with a local gin company to create the GFG London No. 1 Dry Gin.
Before using coffee grounds to make gin, they had already created a series of products including body scrubs and candles from coffee grounds. Their raw material—coffee grounds—comes from a local café in Penarth.
Notably, Rosie, one of the company's founders who developed this product, is one of the few addiction therapists in the Principality of Wales. She never imagined that one day she would produce and sell alcoholic products. A portion of the product's proceeds is also donated to a charity serving homeless people.
The caffeine is removed from this GFG London No. 1 Dry Gin during the distillation process. Popular traditional London dry gins on the market are known for their unique and subtle flavors due to ingredients such as juniper, seaweed, and lemon.
However, this gin, while lacking the strong flavor of coffee, offers a perfect blend of juniper, citrus, and other spices, with a final hint of subtle smokiness from coffee grounds in the aftertaste. The liquid itself is colorless and transparent.
According to information provided on the Grounds for Good official website, this gin is available in three sizes: 700ml, 200ml, and 50ml, all with an alcohol content of 44%.
Compared to some high-end gin brands, its price is not excessive: 700ml for 39 euros (approximately 300 RMB); 200ml for 15 euros (approximately 115 RMB); and 50ml for 5 euros (approximately 38 RMB).
For coffee lovers, perhaps the most interesting scenario would be wearing clothes and shoes made from coffee grounds, sitting on chairs made from coffee grounds, under lampshades made from coffee grounds, placing cups made from coffee grounds on tables made from coffee grounds, with the cups containing alcohol made from coffee grounds.
Is this not the ultimate declaration of love for coffee, expressed through an entire room filled with coffee grounds!
