The Rise of Naye Fruit: How a Niche Fruit Became a Sensation

On March 23, 2021, Nayuki launched a fresh fruit tea - "Overlord Yugo." The niche fresh fruit Yugo was boldly adopted as the raw material for fruit tea, bringing fresh vitality to the new-style tea market.
According to the description of "Overlord Yugo" in Nayuki's store on a food delivery platform, "one bottle contains approximately 66 Yugo fruits from the Chaoshan sweet variety, freshly squeezed." Yugo was originally a small fruit mainly distributed in the Chaoshan region, with obvious regional characteristics; its acceptance among people also had clear limitations. Some people fell in love with the sweet aftertaste that followed its astringency, but more people were defeated by the explosively sour and astringent sensation the moment it entered their mouths. However, these limitations were all broken by Nayuki's bottle of Overlord Yugo.
As soon as Overlord Yugo was launched, it quickly became popular across major social media platforms. As of June 14, 2021, the topic of "Overlord Yugo" on Sina Weibo alone had garnered 45.2 million reads. Today, "Overlord Yugo" remains the number one bestseller at Nayuki stores. According to sources, the reason this product became so popular is also closely related to the public's urgent demand for a slim figure. In reviews of "Overlord Yugo" on Xiaohongshu, words like "diarrhea" and "oil removal" constantly appear, creating the illusion that it can help with weight loss.
The Soaring Price of Yugo Fruit
The raw material used to make "Overlord Yugo" - Yugo fruit - has thus seen its price skyrocket dozens of times. Recently, according to CCTV Financial News, the price of Yugo has been rising all the way, currently reaching 40 yuan per jin (500g)! Previously, the price of Yugo had long been maintained at the level of a few cents to one yuan per jin.
How Crazy is This Year's Yugo Price?
According to Times Weekly, in May, a local fruit farmer from Chaoshan, Jieyang, stated that due to the booming market, the Yugo fruits in the orchard before April had basically been completely bought out; Yugo that previously cost 2-4 yuan per jin, and at most 8 yuan per jin, now costs about 25 yuan per jin this year.
According to CCTV Financial News, in June, the price of Yugo continued to strengthen. Before the Qingming Festival, the price of Yugo had already reached 40 yuan per jin. The market was rushing to buy goods, driving up prices. The price of Yugo changed three times a day, with prices jumping up by 7-8 yuan.
Meanwhile, on mainstream e-commerce platforms, some merchants have listed Yugo at even 50 yuan per jin, with all shipping addresses originating from the Chaoshan region.
Market Response and Future Outlook
This Yugo craze, led by Nayuki, has also drawn in another giant in the new-style tea market - Heytea.
On May 17, Heytea launched three Yugo products at once, but limited their launch to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and the Chaoshan region. To quickly attract attention and seize the market, Heytea collaborated with Mr. Muscle to focus on marketing selling points that emphasize "oil removal effects."
Since March, Yugo has become the new favorite, with supply unable to meet demand. Local fruit merchants in Chaoshan also stated that since May, Yugo has been out of stock for a long time, and even many local Chaoshan people cannot get any. Yugo was originally just a niche fruit in the Chaoshan region. Even the local Chaoshan people don't understand how Yugo suddenly became popular overnight, with its price soaring, and they can't even get it anymore.
Thanks to Nayuki's promotion, Yugo became a sensation. According to CCTV Financial News, because the current profits from Yugo are considerable, Yugo cultivation has gone crazy, with barren hills all being converted to grow Yugo. Today's tea products are constantly being updated, and consumer taste preferences are unpredictable. As for the harvest of newly planted Yugo three years from now, will the situation be as bright as it is now?
