The Rise of Spanish Latte
As %Arabica expands its presence in China, its signature Spanish Latte has sparked a wave of popularity. However, Spaniards far away in the west have no idea what a "Spanish Latte" is.
Spanish Latte is composed of espresso, milk, and condensed milk. Simply put, it's a latte with condensed milk added. Spanish Latte has more in common with Vietnamese drip coffee. Since Vietnam uses Robusta beans with a rather bitter and burnt flavor profile, it's often consumed with condensed milk. The sweetness of condensed milk mixed with the bitterness of coffee creates a unique flavor profile. Spanish Latte is more like a less viscous version of Vietnamese coffee.
The Spanish Connection
If Spanish Latte must have some connection to Spain, there is a coffee drink originating from Madrid called "Café Bombón." This belongs to the category of espresso drinks and is made in a glass espresso cup with condensed milk added in a 1:1 ratio, followed by espresso, creating a distinct black-and-white contrast.
Spanish Latte is extremely popular in the Middle East and Arab regions. This sweet coffee drink is one of the popular summer refreshments for Arabs. According to statistics from civil organizations in the UAE, Spanish Latte sales account for half of all coffee consumption nationwide.
This might be because the key ingredient in Spanish Latte coffee is high-quality coffee. In the Middle East, most cafes choose to use specialty coffee beans to make Spanish Latte, which has significantly increased the demand for specialty coffee and its brewing equipment among existing and newly opened cafes.
How to Make Spanish Latte
Making Spanish Latte requires espresso, which can be made at home using a Moka pot or portable espresso machine. FrontStreet Coffee recommends using "Frontsteet Sunflower Warm Sunshine Blend." This coffee bean is a blend of Yirgacheffe natural red cherry coffee beans and Honduras sherry coffee beans. When extracted as espresso, it presents rich fermented wine aroma, berry sweetness and acidity, vanilla cream, and nutty caramel flavors.
Since you need to extract rich coffee, when using a Moka pot/portable espresso machine for extraction, the coffee grounds need to be extremely fine. Therefore, friends at home without a grinder can note the brewing method + grinding when purchasing, but the aroma of ground coffee dissipates faster, so drink it as soon as possible~

After the espresso extraction is complete, add 100g of condensed milk and stir well, then you can enjoy your Spanish Latte! The sweet and rich condensed milk coffee is truly captivating!
