This coffee bean from Rwanda comes from an unremarkable country, has an unremarkable name, and looks unremarkable, yet possesses impressive strength.

In a coffee cultivation world accustomed to using hectares and acres as units, about 2,000 farming households in the small town of Musasa each have fewer than 200 coffee trees. The scale is very small, but their inner universe is full of energy. In 2000, with government assistance, they established the Dukunde Kawa coffee cooperative. After ten years of effort, in 2010 at the second COE (Cup of Excellence), they achieved two excellent results of second and seventh place, stepping onto the world stage.

Such outstanding results are not only due to the farmers who produce coffee with love and dedication, but also include superior geographical conditions. Rwanda is part of the western valley of the East African Rift Valley, one of the birthplaces of coffee. The average altitude here ranges from 1,500 to 2,000 meters, which is the critical height for coffee cultivation. This helps extend the maturation period of coffee and optimize delicate processing.
