FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Bolivian Coffee Varieties
Criollo/Criolla is a natural mutation of Typica commonly found in Peru, Bolivia, and Colombia. In some South American and Latin American countries, Typica is simply called Criollo.
Bolivia is actually quite good, and I personally quite like it. Under washed processing, it has a soft starfruit acidity with a certain body. My friends and I also tasted a faint honey water flavor.
About Bolivia, I wonder if you have ever tried coffee beans from this origin? Excellent Bolivian coffee has a very sweet and pure taste. Due to the high altitude of local coffee growing areas, combined with the unique tropical rainforest environment, it's actually very suitable for coffee cultivation. However, the geographical environment leads to low production, making coffee export and production quite difficult. The mountain roads leading to coffee growing areas are also known as the "Death Road."
