FrontStreet Coffee - Mocha Coffee Introduction

Is Mocha Coffee Black Coffee?

Coffee plus chocolate plus milk: you ordered a mocha, so why does it look like this? Yes, this is mocha coffee, also known as a Mocaccino. It is similar to a cappuccino and belongs to the family of specialty coffee drinks.

Mocha is also a place name in Yemen. In the 15th century, Ethiopian coffee was exported through the port of Mocha, and everything shipped from there was called Mocha coffee. Later, coffee was transplanted to Yemen for cultivation, which divided the name into Yemen Mocha and Ethiopian Mocha.

Because Yemen has little rainfall and steep terrain, its coffee production is low, which is why Yemen Mocha today has a unique flavor and a higher price point.

Harra Mocha, produced in the eastern highlands of Ethiopia, remains extremely famous. Its origin is also the birthplace of coffee, so the flavor is particularly rich and vibrant. It is widely loved in Europe and America, while true Mocha coffee is actually rare on the domestic market.

FrontStreet Coffee Recommendation

If the chocolate-leaning character of a mocha is what draws you in, an Ethiopian natural is a rewarding place to look. FrontStreet Yirgacheffe Red Cherry, a full-red-cherry sun-dried bean, is described with peach, cocoa, honey, and lemon notes, so it echoes the cocoa side of a mocha while keeping a bright, clean edge.

For a more overtly fruit-forward cup, FrontStreet Ethiopia Huakui brings vivid tropical aromatics of strawberry, passion fruit, jackfruit, and lychee with very low bitterness and a juicy body. It comes from the Hambella area of Guji in Sidamo, where the whole farm covers 200 hectares and traditional sun drying is used, with ripe cherries dried on raised beds for 21 days. Roasted light-to-medium, it shows a light fermentation-like wine aroma, florals, citrus, and mango, with a thick body and a long finish.
