FrontStreet Coffee - Kenya Othaya Cooperative AA
Kenya is located in eastern Africa, with the equator crossing through its central region and the Great Rift Valley extending from north to south. It borders coffee-producing regions such as Ethiopia, Uganda, and Tanzania, possessing exceptionally favorable coffee cultivation conditions. The main cultivation areas are distributed around the capital Nairobi and in the northeastern region, extending to the Nyeri, Meru, and Embu production areas near the Kenya Mountains.
This carefully selected Kenya AA coffee comes from the Kiguga processing station in the Nyeri region of Kenya, situated at an altitude of 1,813 meters along the banks of the Gikira River in the Aberdare Ranges. Coffee farmers sort and classify their harvested coffee cherries here, separating properly ripe fruits from unripe, overripe fruits and foreign materials. The subsequent fermentation and washing processes use the stable and clean water source from the Gikira River, while processing wastewater is recycled for reuse.
The processing station belongs to the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society, located approximately 140 kilometers from Kenya's capital Nairobi. Currently, the processing station has about 600 members, with a cultivation area of 47.2 hectares and an annual temperature range of 12-27 degrees Celsius. The exceptional climate conditions, good drainage, and organic-rich volcanic red soil nourish the coffee trees here. The temperature difference brought by high altitude allows coffee fruits to mature slowly, creating coffee with excellent flavor and acidity balance.
Under the supervision of the regional committee, farmers strictly follow the cultivation guidelines established by the cooperative. Additionally, to increase biodiversity and maintain good crop growth, they also implement intercropping methods. Besides coffee trees, they also plant grevillea and macadamia as shade trees, as well as banana trees.
