FrontStreet Coffee - Yirgacheffe Alamo Cooperative Washed G1 Introduction

Ancient nations on the African continent, Ethiopia is the homeland of Arabica coffee. It is in the forests of Ethiopia's Kaffa region that you can see wild Arabica coffee. Coffee in Ethiopia is equivalent to the nation's currency, and almost all wealthy families built their fortunes through coffee trade in previous generations.

In the Ethiopian language, coffee is called "Bun" or "Buna."

Ethiopian coffee has many distinctive characteristics, among which Yirgacheffe is renowned. However, Yirgacheffe also has many varieties, with various processing methods and specialty grades leading to different levels and prices. When they reach China, they become mixed and confusing.

The Alamo Cooperative was established in 1975 and has 2,254 members, joining YCFCU in 2002.

The Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union, abbreviated as YCFCU, was established in 2002. The organization has 26 primary cooperatives, including well-known ones like Konga and Worka, which are all under YCFCU.

The Alamo Cooperative has an annual rainfall of 1400-1800mm and fertile reddish-brown soil. It has obtained Fair Trade and Organic certifications. It has two coffee processing plants. In terms of processing, after depulping the coffee cherries, they undergo approximately 72 hours of water fermentation using traditional Ethiopian methods, followed by another washing before being placed on raised beds for sun-drying. After drying is complete, they undergo manual sorting. The processed coffee beans are stored in parchment form and sent to the capital Addis Ababa, where they are hulled before export.
